The difference is mainly in the pistons.
-b20z 9.6 compression (all b20z are USDM)
-b20b 8.8 compression or 9.6 compression (all USDM 8.8 compression, JDM can be either)
all 9.6 compression motors have knock sensors. they are at the back of the block, above the oil filter, just below the intake manifold at the top of the block. this is so you can still run 87 octane with the higher compression.
b20z has different pistons for higher compression. all b20s are dohc non-vtec. all b20zs are USDM, they all have the higher 9.6 compresssion, and they all have knock sensors. Usdm b20bs are 8.8 compression.
JDM b20bs are either 8.8 or 9.6. simply put, you want a b20 with the better pistons, and the knock sensor. the tops of the higher 9.6 pistons say PHK.
if it has a knock sensor, you're good.
