I Might Be Boosting My H22
I plan on boosting my H22 in the spring. Im curious to see what kind of boost I can run on a stock motor safely. I have heard that stock H22's arent to safe for boost. I do have plans on building and sleeving the block eventually. I just want to know how much boost I can run while the motor is stock. Unfortunally my car is a automatic, so I will be using a VAFC2 right now for tuning. When I pull the motor to have it built I will be converting over to a F Series manual tranny due to the long gear ratio's and using HONDATA S200B for engine managment. This is what my set up on the motor being stock will contain
Peakboost H22 Manifold
Garrett GT2871R w/ T3 Housing .63 AR Turbo
TiAl 38mm Wastegate
Custom WG Dump Tube
2.5 Inch Intercooler Piping
3 Inch Downpipe
3 Inch Exhaust
Walbro 255
1000cc Injectors
Apexi VAFC2
All recommendations are welcome

Do a little searching...

I believe the most stock block posted on this site is 536whp.
I'm going stock block, planning to tune for 300 to 350whp.

Im also going for atleast 300-350whp on 93 octane. I can see now that this is very posseble on the stock bottem end. Thanks for the links h22sedan. Im hoping to see atleast a high 12 on radials when the tracks start to open back up next year. That is if I definitly decide to go with boost. Im still considering a NA set up. Whatever I decide to do I will start by January.

look in the sig, h22+t ,
edit just looked at your post, 440cc'a are to small Im running 1000 cc car idles like stock, and i have plenty of room when i build a bottom end.

dont do more than 7 psi or you WILL CRACK ringlands ie.

this will happen at more than 7 psi. ive been there done that! as for the turbo setup good stuff go for it. you migh want to look into building your motor sooner rather than later because it will be worth it in the lnog run. good luck would love to see it done.

I dont know how good of a tune i can get for my motor of a VAFC. I really want hondata but you cant really put any good name brand systems on a auto ecu. Which kind of blows
. So as far as injectors go, I guess im going with 1000cc's. Anyone here think that im running to small of a turbo?

i think the turbo is way too small. go with an sc61 or something.

for 300 whp sc 61???? Gay. It will have lots of lag for what you are after.... even on the big 2.2
Boost levels dont kill cars, as 10 psi on a gt 28 is nowhere NEAR the same as on a 40r.... It really depends on the engines horsepower/torque output as to how the engine is going to hang in there... SO since tuning is so important, the safc or vafc hack IS NOT A GOOD IDEA... It will end up killing your setup. At the very least get a chipped ecu and run crome ofr something....
t3/04e stage 3 57 trim 63 ar ex housing... FUN FUN FUN powerband I had a f 22b1 with 1 of these on it and it was goooood times, power everywhere, without running out up top. 300 whp stock block for a year before taking it off and starting my 600whp h22 build. I think the gt30r would also be great fun for you as well.... I got to 305whp/307 tq at 15 psi on a STOCK f22b1 (other than head studs- which i also suggest) with the t3/o4e.
TRUST ME. 440 injectors will only get you to about 280-290 whp... and tuning is critical. The h's (as all hondas) are plagued by their weak ringlands... The thing that sucks for the h blocks are the frm sleeves that will not work with forged pistons, you have to get your block sleeved, or run the mahle pistons (which suck *** in my opinion
Im not sayiong the h isnt a good candidate for boosting, but be reaslly conservative on tuning, or you WILL be sorry...
As for the f22 tranny, i reccomend against it... Get a h23 tranny, or h22 tranny (stay away from the m2f4 if you are concerned about highway cruising as it has the shortest cogs out of the h22 trannys). The h23 trans is a happy medium. it has the lower 4.2x FD ratio, but longer gears than the h22 trannys, but shorter than the f trannys. The F FD ratio is 4.0, and it has way loinger geras (2-5)..... The H revs higher and does really like the shorter gearing.
SOunds like the h23 trans would be the best for you.
Just my 02
GOOD LUCK MANG!!!

Agreed
esp the H23 trans. what car is this going into?

wow, you guys are setting this dude up for failer. I wouldnt boost more then whatever gets me to around 250whp on a stock h22. My best advice for him is to talk to a builder that actually builds honda race cars (yes, are cars are considered race cars after they are suped up) If you find someone that has built dozens of h22's they will be the better judge of how far you can push it, and how long it will last. Because pushing a stock motor to 500+hp is fun and you can get all the internet props in the world from it, but it wont matter if it only lasts 3 or 4 hard runs at the track. Or even worse, 3 or 4 times on the road then having to get it towed away on fire with a hole in your engine because you listened to people on the internet. Because even if someone did by chance make that kind of hp, and it did by some mirical make it for more then a couple months it could just be a fluke engine, and you shouldnt even compare your engine to theres. I would look at how many people blew up there engine by not setting it up proper, compared to the people that got lucky for a little while and then make a decision on wether to even consider it.

We set up a friends h with a similarsetup to the one on my f... 350 whp for over A YEAR AND STILL GOING STRONG.... mAYBE, i ACTUALLY HAVE SOME EXPERIENCE IN THE MATTER???? sETTING HIM UP FOR FAILURE??? not in the slightest.... iF HE WANTS T O HAVE A SUCCESSFULL SETUP.... iD SAY THAT THE PEOPLE WHOM CONSISTENTLY HAVE GOOD FORTUNE WOULD BE THE ONES WHOM ARE DOING something right...wouldnt you????
I could go on about the cars that weve done but the fact is:
YOU CANT SET A LIMIT BY PRESSURE (PSI), as imentioned 15psi on a t3 is different then on a sc 61..... You have to look at the level of power produced by the engine safely - which tuning is going to be the major factor in- either making it or breaking it....
300 whp was totally doable, I thought my buddy was crazy going further... but he also ONLY put in headstuds, and its still running today. Both DD cars (as well as ohers weve done... including 635 whp dd built civic coupe)
Sorry boyut the caps, my keyboard sux and i dont tyoe well, so im not gonna retype it
</TD></TR></TABLE>Who are you reffering to?
"Im curious to see what kind of boost I can run on a stock motor safely" and that exactly why I posted no more then 7psi to be safe. My coment was directed to the size turbo he mentioned not a 42r or a sc61.
Damn look what my thread has started...lol. Gotta love it, but yea actaully I think im just going to go with a NA set up for now, just head work mainly, so i can always go to boost if i want to without wasting a shitload of money. Thanks though for everyones input. I have learned quite a bit from all of you. Thanks guys
