Default antenna nut wrench substitute?

I was hoping to replace my antenna and motor assembly this weekend, but forgot that the dealership parts counter closes at 4 p.m. today. Does anyone here know of a trick to remove the antenna nut without using the factory tool?

Use a flathead screwdriver and a small hammer, mask the area around the antenna with a couple layers of masking tape in case you slip. Use the flathead against the slots on the antenna nut and lightly tap the end with the hammer to rotate it off. It might take some time but be gentle so you dont knick the nut or slip and hit the body of the car.

Go to home depot and pick up some snap ring pliers for $10. They will do the job and are a lot better than the screw driver and hammer method. I've done it with a screw driver and I almost slipped and scratched my car.

Thats why you mask off the body and dont go crazy hitting the screwdriver...

It was well protected but it was rusted so I had to hit it a little harder. It slipped but I barely missed the car.

The screwdriver method works great... But like previously stated, watch the paint.

Do what I did though... S2000 antenna.

PM RStoR, he makes the installation kits.

Thanks.

I thought about using a hammer and flathead, but I don't want to put the new one on that way. I may try the snap ring pliers, or I may just put it off until next week.

As for the antenna, I've already got the new OEM assembly. Don't really like the S2K antenna on Integras.

I used a pair of small needle nose pliers that have a right angle bend at the end. The points of the pliers fit right into the holes. That method worked pretty good for me.

I used regular needle nose pliers, worked perfectly, just take your time and as koala said, mask off the paint around the antenna.

Why not just use some slip joint pliers and a piece of cloth so you don't sctatch the chrome lock nut.

I mainly want to avoid binding the new antenna. If the torque specs aren't right on the antenna nut, you can damage the new motor.

Anyway, it's all moot now, since I've got the proper tool.

Do they make a cap for the hole if you don't want the antenna? I thought I saw it once.

The switch that turns the antenna off so that its not up when the radio is on was high on my list!

The motor and mast are both fried. I've got a new OEM setup to replace them.

An aftermarket motor with a shorter mast would be cool, but I like the idea of having it in the backlight best. If a replacement glass company offered new backlights with antennas in them, I'd have gotten one the last time my car was in the body shop and had OEM the antenna shaved. I still think that would look clean, especially if the backlight were available with the wiper-delete.

Oh, and my stereo only extends the antenna when the tuner is selected, which I thought was pretty cool.

(db8) sedans have telescoping antennas as well. i think they look cool... it's like you're driving a remote control car
