The higher the K the LESS light you put out. You're sacrificing light output for color. Thats why OEM systems are around 4-5000k.

I'd do a retrofit before bothering wiht a kit but most people don't listen.

Technically, 3000K has the most lumens (aka output). With everything over 8000K just being a dumb investment.

Honestly, 4300K is the best overall choice. Hence why BMW, Audi, Honda, etc. uses 4300K bulbs.

If you are just getting a PnP HID kit, then you are going to have some hot-spots and glare will be kinda bad. If you want to do it right, retrofit. Retrofitting will give you the sharp cutoff and spread that OEM HIDs have. Projectors bend the light, which spreads the light wider, and gives it the cutoff you all want.

It's your money, do what you want. If you must get PnP HIDs, then I'd go 6000K at the most.

3000k = yellow. 4300k is the maximum light output anything higher then 4500K is for color than anything. the higher the K the more blue/purple it will become which is also less light output. if you want color then go with 10000k

Most factory hid systems run on 4100k bulbs. 4100k is the closest to the output of the Sun.

I've seen some amazing retro HID setups lately on several cars around town, and it just convinces me more and more to save up for one.

Of course I've also seen some PnP setups (more often than not), and boy do they bug the heck out of me.

All you need for a retrofit are the following:
1) projectors(e46 are sorta cheap at about 120 a pair, tsx are 180 a pair, s2000 have a wider output but thinner color band and are at about 300+ a set)
2. Ballasts: People recommend the matsushisa(i think i misspelt it lol my bad) but most have the hella gen3 which is good too. U just have to place it undernearth the headlights and make them water/snow-proof at any environment. A set is about $ 180
3. a pair of 4.3K xenon bulbs or 5K for the pure white right out of the box. $70
4. custom wiring for security. $15 from hidplanet.com
5. A pair of useless headlights to practice on which can be purchased on ebay foryou need some cutting, etc. $200 for a set
6. Shourds which can be found on ebay as well as hidplanet.com for 30 bucks or less or you can even customized your own shrouds.
7. A little aiming skills, apply mods to the projectors for more color output
8. Enough money for such things mentioned above and patience if you wanna do it yourself.

And you're done!
If you want more input, then visit 8thcivic.com and look for the HID forum, or hidplanet.com/forums. =]

Taking apart your stock headlight assembly and replacing the projectors or reflectors with something designed to handle HID output cleanly and w/o excess glare, hotspots, light intensity centered too close to the front of your car, etc.

Aye^^^^ Retrofit also stands for putting something in your car from another model. I.E.: Not stock or available from factory, but a factory item on another model.
