Sounds like a lot more than the Tire Rack charges. What kind of car do you have (year, model, version) and what diameter wheels do you have (14", 15", 16")?
In most sizes, the Kumho SPT is significantly less expensive than the Direzza and it's slightly better, too.

Correct. 195/50-15 is the proper size for 15" wheels on your car.
You can get the Kumho Ecsta SPT in that size for $51/tire at the Tire Rack. Your total cost for four tires from the Tire Rack comes to:
$204 tires
+50 shipping (approx)
+0 sales tax (most states)
+40-60 mounting and balancing (my Wal-Mart charges $8/tire)
-40 rebate from Kumho
$254-274 TOTAL COST INCLUDING SHIPPING AND INSTALLATION
This is a much better deal than the Direzza for $385.

Well, I suppose you could but it would be too big. It would lead to sluggish acceleration, to some extent, and odometer/speedometer error.
Ask yourself this, why would you want to run a bigger/wider tire on your car?

Let's see... the SPT has the best performance and the lowest price... I don't know, I give up.

if you want a long lasting tire go with the direzza. I got em and i did 2 auto-x's with em and I cant tell where i lost tread. but the downfall is that they are not the best performing tire. your acceleration is good with the tires but they cant take a lot g's in the corners. if you chose the direzza i got mine for 305 mounted and balanced. also if you do want good semi good cornering go with 205/50/15. if you go with 195's your car will corner even less.

For street tires on a CRX, stick with 195/50-15. 205/50-15 is too big, will throw off your speedometer and odometer, will make your car accelerate slower in each gear, and is more expensive. And compared to differences between tire models, the difference in cornering from 10 mm of treadwidth is imperceptible, so slight that you would never be able to notice any difference. If you're looking for better cornering, concentrate on buying better, stickier tires, not wider tires.
If you're autocrossing competitively, where every thousandth of a second in lap time is significant, and you're already using the stickiest tires available, that's a different story. But for street use on a CRX, stick with 195/50-15.

It would be extremely foolish for you to get the AST. It's a truly crappy tire. For just a few dollars more, you can get the SPT, which is MUCH better in every way (except on snow, which you never drive on).

In 195/50/15, the SPT is $51 per tire @ tirerack, the Direzza is $57.
AFAIK the Kumho rebate is still in effect through the end of the year, so another $40 off for a set of SPT.
Performance/dollar, get the SPT. $6 less per corner plus the rebate make the SPT $64 less than the Direzza with _very_ similar performance.

he is correct in the fact that you do get a better bargain in the spt and that you also get a better bargain performance tire...the dunlop is a piece of crap when compared to other tire's in that price range
