Default Need new syncros

Sup everyone, well I'm picking up a 5spd tranny this weekend for cheap, and the guy I'm getting it from says that the 2nd gear is messed up and that it probably needs new syncros put in. Well, I'm wondering if that is possibly the problem, and if not what else could it be? Also, if it is the problem, can someone point me in the right direction to where I can purchase new ones?

Thanks in advance

Well did he say it used to grind 2nd? Usually these H22 trannys grind 5th and reverse. You could take the chance of installing it and putting in some GM syncromesh and see if it does anything, the only down side is if you still have problems your gonna have to take out the tranny again.

There is a company, i cant think of their name right now, that offers carbon coated syncros. Ah, its gearspeedinc.com. You could always send them your tranny and they will rebuild it.

The tranny is going to be for my 2nd Prelude that I'm putting together, so I'm still going to need to get a motor, shifter, and shift linkage for it still. He says the 2nd gear syncro may have gone out(whatever that means) so he just ended up buying a new one. I've never rebuilt tranny or messed with it other than having to take it off to change my clutch(I'll never do this again by myself)

I was defenitly going to check the helms out, but if anything, my GF's dad knows someone who can work on it, so I may just give it to him to play with....Damn, it'll be the first time ever to let a licensed mechanic work on something for my car
