Like the title says, I'm trying to install my Benen rear strut bar and I have to cut the quarter panels to do so. The thing is I could just eyeball it, but I'm afraid it'll look like a$$.

So does anyone have any templates? Or should I just cut it out myself using a knife? I don't have any dremel tools either.

 

I guess you are talking about the rear strut that connects to the rear shocks inside your car etc...if this is the case and if you have a Teg wich I assume you do, its should have pannels above the shock where you can just pop them up.

They are outlined...I really dont think you have to cut anything out.

a lil more detail would help

Yes, I'm talking about the rear upper strut bar that goes above the rear shocks.
I need to cut out a little below the opening of the panel because the strut bar sits so low.

So after I somehow cut it out, the bar will bolt on, then I can place the top plastic opening back on. You see what I'm getting at?

 

yea..i had to cut for my mugen bar. just eyeball it...unless youre like planning to enter HIN or something..it will look coo.

and after lookin on the net i see what you mean with the bar you have...as for suggestions Eyeball it, there are no templetes that I could find. a measurin tape and a pencil is your best friend

Those heavey duty exacto style knives work well on that had to cut for a roll bar it worked fine, the commerical plastic cutter ones...picked it up at local hardwar store

a Dremel tool would really help in making the install clean. if you are going to do it with a knife, round the bottom edges of the hole so the plastic won't split there. Stress risers=bad.

Hmm...I remember not too long ago someone posted his mugen rear strut bar. And his panels didn't have that nasty cut-out look exposed. Instead it was covered with some kind of black rubber tube thingy.

Anyone know where to buy these rubber tubes..? I'll try home depot.

 

ROTO-ZIP! The best tool ever. I prefer my roto-zip over the dremel for any kind of cutting. start small is all i can say... and just gradually get a little bigger and bigger until it's snug and NOT touching anywhere. Good Luck

 

S&M Racing has a printable template for the JDM Type R strut bar. I forgot the website cuz I have it bookmarked on my computer at home, I'll post the link when I get home.

Use door edge guard moulding and cover the cuts! You can pick some up anywhere

 

where can I buy those door edge guard moldings? Does home depot sell dremel tools as well?

Sort of. If you get the Mugen strut bar it comes with it. THe JDM type R rear strut bar comes with it too.

 

the jdm bar's template won't work... it's for the caps, not the trunk lining.... comptechgsr2000, NICE install. what kind of rollbar/rollcage do you have?

does anyone have pix of the jdm type r rear strut bar on a 4dr integra? i am curious because the trunk carpet on the 4dr goes over the rear shock towers.
