Motor swap on a 2nd gen prelude (84)
I am currently driving an 84 prelude on only 3 out of 4 cylinders. The rest of the car is in great shape, but it is old and is powered by a carburated 1.8L. So I don't want to spend the $1000 in order to just get the head re-built.
Instead I would rather go all the way and replace the entire motor with a 2.0 fuel injected version. However I have no idea where I can locate such an engine. I am hoping to get some credit for swapping my old motor with the stuck valve.
Where should I start looking?

don't waste your time with an accord motor. go big and swap in the h22a or go for the b18c (integra dohc motor). if you are going to spend the money and effort to make it fuel injected, then spend it so you will be happy. my biggest suggestion would be for you to find a junked fuel injected prelude, cause you are going to need a lot of parts. if you can find a 2.0 prelude from 85-87 that has a blown motor or something, do that and use the wiring and fuel pump, and everything else you can to convert it over. that will be the cheapest way to go.
the h22a will fit in the 2nd gen lude?! I was told that it wouldnt
how hard is this swap? and what else needs to be changed over from the old engine to accomidate the h22a?

you will need a lot of wiring, the ecu, custom axles, and a lot of little things that should come with the package deal. the main things that you will need to change would be the fuel system. you need different size fuel lines to go from carb to mpfi, so you will need a different fuel pump, probably the sending unit, and the wiring for each. those you can probably get away with using from the second gen lude, but you may want a different fuel pump - one that puts out higher psi. as for the fit, anything can fit with a bigger hammer. it will probably be a very tight fit, one that requires a little thought, but it can be done with a lot of time and patience. and probably with a lot of money. your best bet would be to probably consult with a mechanic who can do the job and see what he gives you for a price. good luck.
Thanks for the advice, it is appreciated. As fate turns out a valve adjustment was all that was needed to get my current motor running just fine. So I think I'll sell the 2g as is and start shopping for something else.

the price for an H22A in to a second gen is 8k but that gets you a 12 second time slip with a stock h22....think about that.befor you sell your 2nd gen and if you want prformance3 parts email me i'm a 2nd gen god...........bwhahahhahah
