It's kind of a pain in the *** as well. Good luck with it and definately get some snap ring spreading pliers.

I use 3 flatheads.
I set the thing on the ground with a block of wood under it to prevent the input shaft from touching the ground. I then sit on a stool and place a flathead between the two trans halves
With my other hands I hold two flatheads and spread the c-clip APART. Then when I can tell that it's completely off of the bearing, I push down on the flathead with my foot and it lifts the case off.
Sounds retarded but I can do it faster this way by myself than I can with snap ring pliers and another person. Snap ring pliers spread the clip and it keeps the opposite side of the C-Clip locked onto the bearing.

i've ripped them apart quite a bit and the easiest way i found out was to use a slanted needle nose plyer... stick the nose inbetween the C and into the hole then press the nose down into the hole while it spreads the clip and with your fingers open the plyers up as much as the hole will let u, than with the other hand use something flat to pry inbetween casing..
