HF start broken ??
updated pics of circuit board.. look down a few posts.
hello all,
i was in the middle of welding something yesterday, i didnt do anything out of the ordinary. put my piece i was welding on my table, put my ground on the table.... i seemed to be getting alot of "electronic noise" out of either the welder or the radio in the shop. i didnt care as its happend in the past, with no ill effects. so i get done welding all the way around a tube, going to make a cap pass on it... my ****** welder "pops" and the HF start aint workin... it does "scratch" start though..... i just had this damn thing fixed last year with the HF start(300.00) and now its busted again.... (i have maybe 10-15 hrs on it since then, im not a full time welder, just do it when i have to.....)
can anyone point me in the right direction, as to what could possibly be wrong, and how i can stop this from happening again? does the welder need to have its own ground away from the other electricity in the building ?
the machine- miller 180-sd(older model, non digital display, has the *****)

Adjusting the spark gap is easier than adjusting valve lash (especially on a b-series
). Same process too. You just use a feeler gauge in between the two pieces of tungsten.

ok, so last friday i called the place where i drop off the welder, they didnt look at it up until that point......... how long has it been?
yesterday, they finally looked at it, and something is blown off the backside of the circuit board.... (they told me its going to cost me 1008.00 to replace it.....)
does anyone think i can have this fixed at any electronic store? or ..... ??

It depends on how bad the board is actually hurt. If it took out alot of the traces or burnt through the board.. you will more than likely just want to get a new one.

Yeah that is steep , I would see how much you can get the board from miller for and just change it your self

Haha that welder is what I have too.
I have never had a problem with the older 180sd w/ no display.
I paid about that price too for mine.... $1000 w/ only a few hours on it.
I say not worth it.

okay if they will not have a replacement board for cheap, you can do this.... now i am not saying this is a great idea but you decide.
goto homedepot, or someone that has the welder you alread have. as long as they have a good return policy your set. Swap out the bad board with the good board into your unit, and take aback the new bought unit back, and get your refund/cash back.
i can't say i have never done this before....
