if he has a chipped ecu he CAN rev up to 8k...doesnt mean its healthy for the motor doesnt mean his motor is going to last very long and doesnt mean he is making any power up there anyway

the ecu upgrade is whats doing it, i beleive stock valve springs can handle up to 8k, but wouldnt think doing it on a regular basis would be good, and is he making power that high in the rpm range? if not then there's no point, i could be wrong but thats how i understand it

just the ecu upgrade makes it possible to redline at 8.. a modified ecu can fool the motor into thinkin that it redlines at 8 so then it does.. depends what he did to the ecu. but yah its possible. and u shouldnt have bet him money at all to prove he is wrong because he is already redlining at 8rpm that just proves to you that it is possible. geez.. oh well... good luck...

i was speeding on the highway tonight with my boosted z6 and i saw a cop as i was about to pass doing around 125ish (being dumb) and i slammed on the brakes and dropped 3rd and that was the first time my motor has ever seen 8k (chipped rev limit) stock valvetrain btw. i thought for sure i would of fucked something up.

but even if its able to redline at 8. does that mean he could be at 80 in 2nd and 120 in 3rd? since it doesnt produce much power after 7

I have a manual EK CX with a stock d16y7, and I can vouch that in 2nd gear you can hit about 70mph (give or take) with the 6200 redline. So yes, I would say 80mph in 2nd get with an 8k redline is possible. Why he would want to redline at 8k confuses me. With just an i/h/e and ecu upgrade he will not be making power past 6200.

http://www.fatboyraceworks.com/gears/

With a 175/70/13 tire, redline at 8000rpm 2nd gear tops out at 75.42 RPM
with a 185/65/14 tire, redline at 8000rpm 2nd gear tops out at 78.15 RPM

This is with the DX/LX transmission.

As everybody's like "awww yeah it's possible"

It's not.

With a modified ECU you can rev up to 8k, but moving up to 8k is a whole different ball game.

With the rev limiter moved to 8k u can tap 8k no problem. Now ur putting a load on the engine and in 2nd gear ur spending TONS of time (and it is tons of time when it comes to terms w/ the engine) in the red zone.

Do that a few times and u'll throw a rod for sure .

If he's done it once or twice i can see it...but his motor's already got to getting roasted.

He can't do that **** on a regular basis anywayz.

Oh, and btw, just in case he thinks his super Y7's hot **** b/c he can rev to 8k, I'll own him in my SUPER STOCK Z6 - the Y7 doesn't even make power up that high stock, going that high is useless on a stock motor.

hey i have a b16a2 and my redlines supposed to be 8200, one time i was taking a c-rex and accord and was really late on a shift, hit 9500 and it didnt cut off.... mind you im not planning on doing that again but it may be something to do with the jdm ecu's - ive noticed im running extremely lean.. maybe the ecu wasnt tuned for the motor you or i have
