Default is it possilbe to swap in a non-SH motor into a type-SH prelude?

hi guys, i've try searching, but i want some hands on experience or people with good knowledge to answer this

i have a 98 lude SH, but i heard there are good and bads about it.. the good of course is the handling around corners and i sure do find it amazing. but the hold back is, i heard you can't have more than certain amount of hp. once its over, there are ATTS light coming on and it doesn't work right.

what is the max amount of power i can gain before the atts starts failing? i'm aiming for about 250-280hp thru internal work... so i'm looking for about 220-240whp, is that safe on the SH?

i've been thinking of adding camshafts, pistons to raise compression, cam gears, upgrade valvetrain, p&p, upgrade IM, i/h/e, and totally built the engine. or should i just give up the SH and swap in a type-S or jdm h22a obd1 motor and built it all da way? if i do so, do i need to custom the header because the exhaust design on the SH is designed to give spacing to the ATTS system right?

thanks
inputs would be great

You can swap in a base or JDM motor no problem because the mounting points for the engine are all the same. The only difference is in the driveshafts. IF you are planning for 230-240whp thats right at the edge of ATTS failure. IF you are staying all motor you could always just remove the ATTS and put in a base tranny and do the intermediate shaft custom plate. Will keep you from having to buy a new engine and save you some cash. I plan on taking this route next year with my Type-S or just transfering the internals over to a base block.

the type-S motor are no ATTS equipped right?

how much is normally customizing an adapter plate? i'm from canada, i don't know any reliable shops who is good with customing that kind of adapter plate.

there is not like a way i can just simply disabled the ATTS thru the ecu? so i can withstand more than 250whp

Without going to Forced induction, I would keep the Atts, your going to be hard pushed with those mods to break 240hp to the wheels. I have never heard how much tq the Atts unit can hold up to before the clutch starts to slip but I would guess not over 200ft/lbs before it disables itself. There are a few people running the JRSC with their SH and not throwing any codes, and I think that might be the route I take with my SH as well as a few other mods.

There are 2 Flavors of the Type-S with the 220hp motor:
1 Type SiR - LSD with the transmission
2 Type S - Atts enabled tranny

I have only been told not to do the adapter plate, Blacktraxx the better shop in my area wont do them cause they call them "unstable".

At around 250hp the ATTS clutch starts to slip, causing you to throw an ATTS code/disable.

Alright i have a question for you, if you have any thoughts or experience. i have just recently got a new koyo radiator, and you know with the ATTS you have the coolant lines that run through the old stock radiator. do you know what i would do to complete that again. do i just get a pipe and bend into a horse shoe? and loop it.

You will need an additional cooling kit. I think an oil or trans cooler will work.
