shifter lick proplems
so first off im a 17 year old kid that knows nothing about transmissions so please answer clearly and dumb it down no technical ****...
so my 92 accord will not come out of park without having to put a key in the emergency shift lock release. I have no clue what could be wrong. Im assuming that this is a common problem and has happened to someone else on here since the exact same thing just happened to my 91 just a week ago. So if any one else has had this problem, and can tell me how to fix it i would love to know.

Check to see whether your brake lights work. Really...
The shift interlock is supposed to prevent you from shifting out of Park unless you're applying the brakes. It uses the same switch/circuit that works your brake lights.
So there's a little button switch down near the hinge of the brake pedal. This switch triggers your brake lamps & also tells the shift interlock that it's OK to release the shift lever. It's sorta common for that switch to break or come loose from it's mounting bracket. Take a look around down there...
If you don't see something obvious, post back. You may need to get your hands on a multi-meter to check out the switch. It also might be a broken wire somewhere in that circuit. But check out the switch, it's the most likely thing to cause the problem.
