Im not sure where to post this, but i do know there are very knowledgeable people on here, so please if this must go somewhere else, have a mod move it.

I have a '91 Protege as a beater, and its auto. I want to flush the transmission, but stupidly, it does not have a drain bolt. Instead, the pan must be removed.

My question is, can i flush the old fluid out by pulling the tube that goes into the radiator and starting the car, pumping fluid thru the lines and dumping it in a bucket? Will it damage the transmission to temporarily run the car (not move, just have the engine running)with low tranny fluid? Will it even work?

If i don't make sense, ask me where to clarify...

That is how flushing is done, at my dealer we place a machine in between the line and the machine dump the old and put in the new. I dont know about doing it by hand though

would it make sense to dip the inlet (to the transmission) in a bucket with clean oil and the outlet (from the transmission to the radiator) into a bucket also and turn the car on? It should just flush itself, no?
