Which engine is this - k20a2 but guys says its only 165hp???
i was lookin to buy this engine...the guy who owns it says the block says its a k20a2
but then i asked him to verify its the 200 hp and he said its the base model 165 rsx motor.
so my question is....is it possible that the k20a2 is the base rsx motor with the same engine code.
AND
What can I check visually to know if its the 200hp or 165 hp engine. on the block and the head so i know its not swapped

The base is the k20a3. Ask him to take a pic of the engine code with a piece of masking tape above it. Reason being its hard to find a pic of an engine code online with a piece of tape above the stamp. That would give you your answer right there. if he refuses its because hes lying and it says k20a3 , Or ask him to take a pic with his face next to the code, just so you know he isnt fkn you.
Good idea
So far i know that the a2 spark cover is much smaller than the a3 spark cover
Now that leads me to ask if the valve covers are interchangable between the a2 and a3.
Also, whats a visual difference on the blocks, besides the engine code.

I dont think the JDM's had any numbers on the block actually. Also the jdm integras base motor had a black plastic intake manifold just like the base RSX here.

dude, the guy apparently said its the base model engine
why would he lie and tell you its the weaker engine? that wouldnt tempt people to want to buy it more..
he is prolly telling the truth

Exactly thats why I said its probably a K20a 3

thats what i thought. but i asked him twice specifically if the block says a2 or a3 and every time he says a2.
I think he might just be a moron.
On the a3, someone said that only the intake cam has vtec and not the exhaust...true?

Yes.
Go do some research on the k20a3.

I would #1) Check the block code, that should pretty much sum it up right there.
If u cant check this in person, dont buy the engine.
#2 Check the engine #, this will also tell u what kind of engine it is.
Biggest advice I can give.... Dont buy this engine, nor any engine, without seeing it.

Wheres the "engine number" and how do i check this against something
I am going to look at the motor in a few days, but i want to know what to look for before i go.

The engine code should be under the drivers side of the intake manifold right underneath the throttle body...its kind of in a weird spot you should be able to see it clearly if your in the right angle.

everyone is right... probably a k20a3 with 160hp, but if you really want to know take off the head and check out the cams.. type-s cams arent interchangeable between the base and type-s

You might want to go double check that. Its been done before.
Anyhow check the block code. Done.

is the picture in the or the motor in the car?? if so the Intake manifold should be black and look like 2 runners a space and then the other 2 runners. the K20A2 has a bigger space in between the manifold runners

Already stated I believe. Not to mention that is something fairly easy to change out, for the sake of fooling someone into thinking its a k20a2.
Anyhow like I said before, the guy is probably confused on the block. Its probably just a k20a3.
