Default How much more compression?

I was wondering how much more compression can i gain by milling my head .01". Or should i just use thinner head gasket? Motor is stock gsr block and head. But i want to go with blox type b or skunk2 stage 2 cams, and i was told more compression is needed.

Since your head is already going to come off if you mill the head you could always do both. Milling your head will get you about .5, with a 2 layer that will get you another .2, if you mill and 1 layer then you could gain about a point. Skunk cams always like more compression anyways. Hope this helps.

According to this; http://www.zealautowerks.com/index.html

A .01" mill will be .24:1 and adding the two layer head gasket will give a bump of .41:1. With the mill and two layer HG you're looking about 10.4:1

Do you guys think the gains are worth the extra cash for the milling? Thanks for the info so far!!!

If you remove all of the sensors, the rocker arms, the cams, and the LMAs it should cost about $40-50 for the mill. Then whatever the HG costs along with either new head studs or ARP head bolts (I'd go with those for re-usablity in the future), a new intake manifold gasket, a new exhaust manifold gasket (if needed), and a few other misc. nickle and dime items. So, what, maybe $250 on the extreme high end?

Personally, I'd wait until I was going to do more with the head.

Is milling the head more than 0.02" reccomended for a daily driver with s2s2 cams?

Dunno. I'm a D-Series guy. Hopefully one of the other guys will chime in. I would think it'd be alright as long as the cams were dialed in correctly.

I miss my d16z6, had a 95 civic coupe with zc pistons, and bullfrog head package. Used to pull on my brother's b16 coupe all the way to fifth, not bad for a sohc. Thanks for the great info!

I've got my head milled .020, with a 1 layer hg and have had no problems just the cost of premium gas. I'm running skunk stg 2 now installed 3 days ago and so far no problems. I drive my car very hard so I think you'll be ok.

I don't know if you're interested, but i have a bare d16z6 block, no crank, no pistons or oil pan. Just bare block, waiting to get overbored or sleeved. Let me know if you're interested. Looking to let it go for cheap.

I'm not worried about the price of gas since i always use 91 octane anyways. Did you get it tuned, if so, what program? What about cam gear settings?

My engine is setup right now with a vafc2 with the stock p73, and I run 93 octane witH occasional octane boost, waiting for the $ for Hondata. With this I run a 12:1 cr so I'm sure your engine will be fine.

or you can find some JDM ITR pistons and be at 11:1 and then do the milling and head gasket and be closer to 12:1 just my opinion though

Thanks, dude. I actually already have a spare block though. I also have a spare B18B block that I've been threatening to build for a while.
