Can the brake shields be removed?
Can the shield that is located behind the disc brake be removed. Why is it there and what will the adverse side effects be of taking it off?? I have my entire suspension off and the shield ore bent up pretty bad and i wanted to remove them.
yes. you need to take the rotor off to acces three phillips head screws. you need a little right angle screw driver or grab them with some pliers.
pros- more heat dissapation
cons- more water soak when wet(bite is weak at first until rotor dries.)
- possible heat damage to balljoint and cv boots and grease iv'e heard if driven on a hard track day.
mine are off for a couple years and no problems
