Default How to determine if a motor is salvageable?

I have a blown 96 b18c1 DC2 and am currently between work and school trying to pull the motor. I already know the basic things like checking pistons, rods, etc. But what all should i check for to tell if its salvagable? For example, how bad do the sleeves have to be scratched (if they are) before there beyond a reliable rebuild? Sorry for the quick undescriptive post but i just got outta school and gotta rush to work
