need tires for my civic?
i need tires for my civic its a 1990 and the size are 13. i was looking for a good all season tire but thats works as good as possible in snow let me your opinions
13" wheels are considered small nowadays, and the best all-season tires don't have sizes smaller than 15". If you got some 15" wheels, you would have a lot more choices for your car in 195/50-15.
Your 13" size is 175/70-13, and the Avid T4 is about the best one you can get in that size ($44 at the Tire Rack). It's nothing great...

Best place I've found is the http://www.hondamarketplace.com classifieds. Start with the forum for your region/area first; you may find someone local so you won't have to pay for shipping.
I THINK you should be able to use any 15" steelies from any Civic or Integra (other than the Integra Type R).
You can also try eBay. Some Civic models came with 15" wheels, and maybe you can find some used ones. Beware high shipping prices though.
If you have trouble finding inexpensive wheels, you can look up wheels for a 2004 Honda Civic on the website for Majestic Honda (4 door LX manual trans), go to the section for WHEEL DISKS, and you will see that they sell the stock black 15x6 steel wheels (part number 1358456, "4 DISK, WHEEL (15X6JJ)") for $37.52 each. I think those probably fit your car. If you get them from Majestic, you would need to pay shipping, so you should also check with your local Honda dealer, maybe they would match the price or come close.

If this is just your 'winter beater' why do you want all-season tires? If this car is going to be used for winter only then get yourself winter tires. You will be happy you did.

Is it cold or slushy the rest of the time? You can use winter tires on dry asphalt, they will work just fine. They just tend to wear out quick and not work as well when it is really warm out though (+10C or so)

Think of winter tires as falling along a spectrum like this:
Summer tires
All-season tires
Performance winter tires
Studless winter tires
The closer to the top of the list, the better the tires are in moderate to warm temperatures; the closer to the bottom of the list, the better the tires are in winter.
I don't think it's necessarily bad for someone who lives in an area that experiences moderate winters - i.e. St. Louis, Washington DC, Albuquerque - to use all-seasons in winter, and summer tires the rest of the year. No, the all-seasons aren't as good as true winter tires, but if snow and cold aren't all that severe, the all-seasons might represent a better trade-off than true winter tires.
For an area which has colder winters - Minneapolis, Chicago, Detroit, Boston, Canada - winter tires are usually a much better bet.

I actually find almost the opposite is true here. People run all-seasons during the short summer and the fall/spring. Then switch to winters for the winter. I don't know if this is done on purpose or just because all cars are sold with all-seasons and it would be a waste to get rid of them. It does have it's advantages though.

I suspect it's because cars are sold with all-seasons and that's what tire dealers recommend. In both cases, it's with the understanding that they might be used in winter, and that performance isn't all that important but treadlife is. Anyone looking for performance would be better off with summer tires in the warmer months, but tire dealers don't often offer advice geared towards performance.

I sometimes wish I had all-seasons. I find here you get snow storm - a week of rain and 15C weather - trace snow - more rain for 10 days. There is like a period of 2 months where it's mild weather with snow once in a while. I had to put my winters on in mid October and the majority of the time since it has been 10C weather during the day with rain. I worry about my winters wearing quickly because of it.
But ya, the majority of people don't care about performance......a tire is just a tire right?
