Default Does This Sound Like A Timing Issue?

Well I'll keep a long story short and say that I did a JDM swap and the spring from the balancer belt tensioner fell off and got caught in the timing belt...cutting off the car. Good thing it was idling in the driveway at the time.

We got a new timing belt and balancer belt and timed it all up and it cranked and started perfectly. That was my first time with a local mechanic friend timing up a h22.

The car idles perfect and sounds fine. No ticking of bent valves or anything. One problem though...acceleration feels extremely limited. Slow. Like the car is pulling a trailer or something. It hits vtec and everything it just takes a long time for it to do so. Sometimes it sputters a lil bit randomly during all fields of the rpm.

I took the car to the DMV in Delaware to get it inspected. It passed emissions and everything with flying colors. Thing is its burning alot of gas. High test with octane booster at that.

Could this be the case of funked up timing? The only thing i remember that was quite sketchy is that Rear Balancer Shaft timing...where you have to put a bolt through the maintanance hole to time it. I think we just moved the actual pulley itself and lined up the marks.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Note* New wires...new distro cap....rotor...plugs...

I'd take the balance shaft belt off and see if it goes back to normal...

You can take it off and run it temporarily? If so I guess thats what i need to do. I'm 100 positive we timed the cams and crankshaft correctly.

TY for quick reply hawk. You always answer me. What do you want for Christmas?

Yeah the blance shaft is optional to reduce vibrations...mine has been gone for along time now. You gain hp from taking it off also.

You always make things clear in your post so it's easy to respond. Send me 6 pack of Coronas

Seeing as you passed emissions, I'm thinking it's not a timing issue. We did an H22 swap into an Accord and found out the timing was off at the crank. It failed emissions horribly. Timed it correctly and it passed with flying colors. Also, performance was lagging when timing was off, but it runs perfect now.

As far as the acceleration goes, what ecu are you running? And are you sure the IAB's are working?

I have the IAB's connected directly to the vacuum. I dont have a line to the ECU yet to control the box...so I dont even have the box connected. So it should run the IAB's open all the time I believe. I could check that anyway though...thanks for the replies.

Update:

Well the spark plugs were the issue with the slight bogging and hesitation. It had oil on them probably when the timing belt got messed up the last time when the spring got caught in it.

The car still feels slow on acceleration. Like it is stuck in the mud. VTEC still hits and the car runs and idles fine. Weird...

For all the timing experts out there...I will take a picture of my car with the #1 cylinder at TDC and hopefully you can tell me if the Cam arrows and everything look correct. I will also take of the balancer belt and see if the car reacts differently to this also.
