I am doing the conversion from a auto tranny to a 5speed. Is it possible to use the starter from the auto tranny on the 5speed or do I need to get a new starter. Thanks

You need a 5 speed starter.

 

I did read the post on doing the auto to manual swop. I noticed that the 5-speed starter in the picture looked pretty much exactly the same as my auto starter so I was just wondering if anyone could tell me for sure that they are different before I go and buy the 5-speed one. well, they may look alike but they may mount slightly different or have different insides, meaning the part that shoots out and spins the flywheel on the manual version may be different than what is on the automatic version. I haven't looked at a manual and automatic side by side so I couldn't tell you for sure, but if you'd like to see I'm sure you can just go to a parts store and have them pull both for the same car and look. But you will need the manual starter anyway, so it really isn't important.
