I have a friend who works at National Bushing where they can bore out throttle bodies and he'd be able to get it done for next to nothing for me. Question is: Is it a worthwhile mod and what kind of gains if any would be expected? Any other things I'll have to watch out for?

to what mm do you plan on boring it out to?

you can only bore 2mm more then stock, thats what i was told, because a pin or something, not sure.

if you can get it next to anything, and they know what they're doing, why not? if you get it bored, i suggest at least 62mm. otherwise, it wouldn't be worth the hassle. they are giving you a new throttle plate, right?

 

The problem is the throttle plate, cause you'll have to put a bigger one in to accomodate the added diameter. That's the expensive part, anyone can bore them out. You can also do a taper bore, kinda like the spoon throttle bodies...

 

My friends bore TypeR TB to approx 70mm which is exactly the same as SPOON. It is tapered in shape so it's 70mm at the opening but it gets smaller and smaller into the throttle plate already. Throttle plate remain stock. That way u will have about 3-5whp gain on mid range and throttle reponse will be improved.

 

really no point in boring out the throttle body if the intake manifold inlet is not bored out to match the throttle body.
