sooo....engine died,need help.
my bf's engine is indeed toast so we're now looking at jdm motor swaps. i've seen a few posts re:jdm swaps, but i need to know if a vtec 1.5/1.6/2 will fit in his car. it has just a regular d15b and he wants to know his options. anyone know what fits in 94 civic dx w/ motors mounts and such? thanks, time's running short...any help is much appreciated!!!!

okay...like i said i saw some threads but they didn't get specific. i saw that exact thread before i posted and it mentions nothing for d-series vtec swaps fitting standard motor mounts. the key is making sure no holes will have to be drilled or that the tranny will not need to be changed unless absolutely necessary. please, i'm not ignorant or stupid. i just really need honest answers, not a blow-off.
i'll help ya.
Basically what you need to do is find the same OBD (OBD-1 in ur case) engine at a junkyard, make sure its a D series (SOHC). It will bolt right up to everything you may have under the hood (wiring, tranny ect) DX engines should be plentiful at any junkyard, i would think. If ur bf can do the labor, should not cost more than 200-300 bucks for everything.
Hell, just look in the classifieds, you might find a D-series for close to nothing.

Basically any common engines from civics or integras will work well w/o any modifications. Common engines includes D15B both USDM and JDM...there's a JDM D15B that comes in a VTEC model, that might be worth looking into, I myself think it's a good engine. D16Z6/D16Y8 - the EX model engines (and 92-95 Si), that's about as much as you're looking at for D's, as for B's you won't want a CRVTEC or anything of the sort, and w/ the LS discluded w/ its lack of VTEC ur looking at the B16a2 (99/00 Si motor), GSR (B18C1), the less practical ITR (B18C5) but powerful, and the even less practical B16b (CTR) motor.
Any of those motor's will bolt right up and they're all pretty practical.
You're running a '94, so you're probably going to want to run something that's OBD-I, you can get an OBD-II motor w/ an OBD-II --> OBD-I converter harness but that's your own beef.
You could probably pick up a D16Z6 long block (that's tranny and all sensors) that'll just drop right in at your local junkyard for 400 bux (and that's the expensive side of it). If he wants more power the next practical steps would be a B16a2 (99/00 Si motor) then a GSR Integra motor.
I'd find a D16Z6 if I were him, and if not, go to http://www.hmotorsonline.com and pickup a JDM D15b VTEC. It'll be straight drop 'n swap and it's a pretty damn good motor.
Other than that, it depends on what he wants it for, what he uses it for, what his budget is, if he has any horsepower goals, etc. I'm probably not gonna post here again but if you want you can PM me with more direct information and I can help you and your boyfriend out more directly.
