i just bought a 1990 accord with 248,000 miles Auto tranny the speed senor is out. so being that will the VSS cause the car accelerate like crap and it seem like it didnt know when to shift. NO CEL

Yes the shift problem can be caused by the VSS being bad, however you should have a CEL or a code stored. Does the CEL come on when you cycle the key on?
Does the cruise control work? if the cruise works the problem might be the speedo itself.
