Watch my build
This is just a thread with pics and info to log the progress of my build, and to possibly help other HT members. This has been an ongoing project ever since i got the car in 2000. However this time around i plan on doing it the right way (fixing rust without bondo etc.) and not making the same mistakes i did previously.
Things i plan on doing and objectives: k20a swap with Hasport mounts. New rear quarter panels and rockers from honda. Misc. body work + paint. I'm no Pro at bodywork but i have a few friends who work for dealerships if i have trouble. I'm a firm believer in the saying "if you wan't it done right, you have to do it yourself" Overall i plan to keep this car clean without cutting corners and to keep it a fun reliable car.
Here's the motor when i first got it from shipping. It looks clean in the pictures but it was actually a little dirty.

I planned on cleaning it up some, so i got some simple green cleaner, some 3m scuff pads and some hi-temp clear coat engine enamel. bare aluminum loves to oxidize so if you clean your motor even with degreaser it will oxidize literally overnight.

After pic

Next were my hasport mounts, they were not welded around all of the seams from Hasport so i took the liberty of welding it up since i had my Dads mig welder handy. why not? Btw this pic is right after i took the mounts out of the box!

After i ground down the welds with a grinder it left some pits in the metal so i went and bought some lightweight bondo filler. just a skim coating here to fill in the scratches that primer won't.

Next i got some plastic prep (works great at prepping metal too) and some weld-thru primer to keep the mount from rusting before paint.

sanded down on the left side of the mount

Don't forget to blow out the dust and prep the metal before you primer.

After the weld thru coating

Next on the list of things to do today
Push out the 62A hasport bushings and press in the 70A bushings. The 62A are street, 70A are street/strip and 88A are drag. i chose 70A, somewhere in the middle but my mounts came with 2 sets of bushings.

To do this i took and used a 5/8 socket & vice to push the bushing pin through the otherside

pressing the new bushings in is pretty much the same process just in reverse order.
