not sure if this is a repost? i searched but no luck. i keep havin to replace my right front wheel bearing, its the third time this year, my left side bellows boot is ripped, with almost no more grease on the inside, im pretty sure my rack & pinion is almost gone bc there is a deep click and much roughness. im told i must replace the whole setup, possibly the outer tie rods might be bent. my question is are there cheaper aftermarket rack & pinion setups to replace the stock one bc dealer cost a grip. btw its a 2000 honda civic dx hatchback(ek9) any insight would be much appreciated thanks
yeah, jsut get a rebuilt rack. since its power, you really cant rebuild it yourself.
personally, i would prefer to buy a honda refurbed unit, but i understand its always more costly. not sure what the expense is compared, but sometimes it is worth it tho, like getting an alternator from honda than autozone.
what makes you think the tie rods are bent?

well i ripped out the power steering setup. plus i was tryin to find a reason why i changed the bearings 3 times in one year, bent tie rod could possibly throw the hub all wack putting pressure on the bearing i suppose, thanks for ur input
bent tie rod? no, that would mess up your alignment. did you have alignment issues?
however, vibration from a loose rack would help cause the bearing to fail prematurely.
i think im dealing with that right now, my passenger wheel bearing is on its way out and for a while i had a loose rack before i replaced my steering rack end bushing (manual steering rack). so that makes sense to me.
