Default My upgrade suspension dilemma for autocrossing. Feedback/input appreciated

I am going to autocross next year. my car is 100% stock now.
My dilemma is that I want a bit stiffer suspension, but not sure how stiff because I want to be able to compare my times to other Stock racers. I don't want to put one mod on that kicks me out of Stock class and my times are not comparable because others have tons more mods than I do.

I want to get rid of the 'boating/floating' feeling when cornering. I don't know if Koni adjustable struts will do much of that. Or if that is more a spring/strut combo thing to get rid of.

my choices as I see them.

1. get Koni adjustable struts which keeps me in Stock class, I can compare my times and have a bit 'nicer' ride on a daily basis.

2. get stiffer springs/struts (Koni+GC) because I'm only going to be auto-xing maybe 7-8 times a year and have an ever 'sportier' daily driver but will kick me out of Stock class

thanks for feedback/input.

What kind of car do you have?

My vote would be to get the Konis and run in stock class. I learned a lot very quickly running with a softly sprung car.

Nothing says you can't get stiffer springs later, that's where I'm at now, running in STS2.

Neither, if your a newb then just run it completely stock. Wait till you get some experience before you change anything.

yes, I just don't want to pay to get struts installed and then later decide I want springs and have to pay more to have them pull it all apart again to put the springs on.

I want to get rid of the 'boating/floating' feeling when cornering. I don't know if Koni adjustable struts will do much of that. Or if that is more a spring/strut combo thing to get rid of. I don't really want to lower it but if I do, 1/2" at most.

What MattP said.

Adjustable Konis on stock springs do exactly what you want: keep you in stock class, and give you a less "boaty" suspension. With the added benefit that you can adjust them softer for the street, where you'll spend most of your time, and stiffer to autox.

It's the setup I have, and I recommend it.

Edit: but if you've NEVER autoxed before, I would say leave it stock for your first several events.
