Default Vacuum Routing Questions....

Ok guys, I could use a little help here on this...RLZ made john (the birdman - 250whp h22) anyways they made his custom IM with only 3 vac ports, 1 MAP, 1 FPR, and 1 T'd off to the brake booster and the IACV

We need to add some sort of catch can/pcv setup as there currently isn't one....and I drew up this diagram hoping it would work with just the 1 big port on the IM, but if we had to I suppose we could drill another hole in the IM...

My original thought was to get a vacuum log like the ITB guys....but if this will work its much simpler....I just wasn't sure if you can tee off like that or if each thing needs its own vac source....i assume they do....

let me know

Looks like it would work to me.

But wouldn't it just be easier/cleaner to have a vaccuum log and hide it under the manifold?

I would vent the valve cover better.

Is that a sealed catch can?

Thats what I originally thought....thanks for the help

If I can make john drop the $$ for a vac log I will....or I may just get some pvc pipe and make my own....hmmm

So you think we ought to have fittings welded on and use those instead of the pcv?? That was the original plan but as always, john is trying to be a cheap ***

Yea is a sealed can, its the http://www.mckinneyraceworks.com one....

Welding bungs would be the best way but you could drill/tap some fittings on the cover as well.

Pesonally I would vent the crankcase instead of trying to run a sealed catch can setup. I would keep it seperate from the IM/Booster/IACV.

Where does the vacuum come from then? Or do you not need vac?

Not necessarly.

I run a filtered breather so it allows the crankcase to vent via three hoses connected to the valve cover. It does not connect to the IM (vacum) in anyway. I do however run a line from the breather to the header with a check valve to "pull" or create some negative pressure in the breather/crankcase.

Yeah pull is what I was looking for...I don't think the vent is going to do a whole lot without some sort of negative pressure....

I want to get john to get a slash cut nipple welded into the collector somewhere and get the check valve setup like you have, I remember you describing that back when you got the header on...

thanks

the vent will allow the posative pressure to escape quickly. You will only get so much vacum from IM. I was surprised how much air was moving through the lines off the valave cover. Obviously blow by palys a role in this however I had to add hose clamps on very tight barbed hose fittings to keep the hoses from blowing off.

^^Well I picked up a custom -10 an fitting can last night. It wasn't cheap, but it has a filter/breather on top with two lines in, and internal baffles. One day, I might get a slash cut in my exhaust, but it will be "after" the collector... I can't cut into those beautiful tubes.
