Default My first ALL MOTOR build - LS/VTEC

I bought this EK about 3 months ago. When I bought it it was stock height, had a carbon fiber hood and clear Altezza style tail lights.

By the second day that I owned it I installed OMNI Power coilovers, ROTA slipstream rims on Falken PT615 tires. I got JDM 96-98 tail lights. The car came with the original CX cluster that was painted blue for some reason. The previous owner was hardcore into RICE! lol

I got a CTR cluster right away. Since I have been building my new N/A motor for it. Anyone on here that knows me from before I have the 89 civic GSR on boost. I've been building that one for about 5 years now, so I've always been a boost guy, this will be my first attempt at ALL MOTOR.

Anyway, about the motor. I got an LS bottom-end and had it totally rebuilt with P30 B16 pistons that are 1mm oversized. I used ARP rod bolts to strengthen the stock rods. I have a Type R flywheel with a new Exedy Stage 1 clutch kit. I got a first gen b17 PR3 vtec cylinder head with Skunk2 valve springs and retainers. I got Skunk2 Pro1 cams and gears. I got TWM individual throttle bodies and a Rage "Hytech knock-off" tri-y header. The head has been cut about 15-thou....so I should have about 12-12.5:1 compression. Well here goes some pics....

sadly i see sooooo many like that. cant decide if its a stolen type thing, or more likely, its so someone with and LS tranny can pass it off as a b16 tranny.

well anyway, good LOOKING set-up. hope it runs well... as far as the car itself goes you need: soap, water, a lip, and and a muffler that isnt from pep boys and youll have one nice looking bucket.

First of all the transmission, I bought it from a very well known shop here in my town. The fact that the vin tag was broken off was not my fault its the way it came.

Anyway, I finally got it running using crome. We used ITBTools and got it to run but because there are so many map fluctuations it is very hard to cruise the car. It's fine when your at 0" vacuum. We just found out about ITBTools Plus and how we can adjust the point of TPS switch over. I'm going to try to make it switch over to TPS as soon as throttle is open, so like 2% or something. Hopefully that will make it fully TPS on load.

Well, with first gen automatic cams, stock ls exhaust manifold and stock cx exhaust it only made 157 whp. Here is the dyno run

seriously, thats a 180hp motor with the shitty cams, just needs a decent header and exhaust. im all about the 2.5'' modded edelbrock for 135 bucks on the 1.8L motors. then put a whitfield street sweepin dump-pipe on it.

you seriously think it will make 180 with the header and exhaust, even with those cams? Thats 20 horse....

yep. cx exhaust is 1.75 inches and that ls manifold is tiny. 2'' collector. 20 horse from a stock manifold and ditching a old clogged cx cat as well....easy.

and if that cat is still on there and it is clogged thats another 5 hp easy.

i didnt see anything about a valvetrain because i skimmed over it but it will be ready for cams then. at which point cleanrice wil lchime in, cuz, thatts what he does.

Your engine is begging you for a set of nice cams.

I think he said in his first post that he has a set of Skunk2 Pro 1 cams to go in. I have heard very good things about the Pro 1's in mild 1.8L motors and almost bought a set. I am very interested to see what the numbers are like with the ITB's. It would be even better to see the ITB's dyno against a reworked ITR-style manifold. You "should" dyno more than 200whp with your setup. My current LSV setup in my sig makes 190whp and 136wtq through a cat and ITR muffler. You have ITB's, a better header and much bigger cams. Keep us posted.

So I finally got my header in!!!!
I installed it right away...but since I only had the CX exhaust for the car I just took the whole thing out and ran it open headers for this dyno session.
What a difference, the car woke up right away!

The Rage header is amazing also, looks great and sounds good....plus it really does make power.

Here is the latest dyno graph.....still with the first gen automatic b16 cams
