It is probably something really dumb, such as a bleeder that is not all the way tightened. Make sure all the bleeders are tight.

my car had a similar problem with the pedal pressure sucking *****. in the end I had to replace the master cylinder, the factory one gave up. once I got that fixed and got pedal pressure back I found that my right rear drum leak brake fluid. I'm getting ready to put in rear discs so it's not that big a deal but maybe that'll give you a couple of things to check.
as far as bleeding the brakes the shop manual says to go in this order...
Front
1 3
4 2
Rear

You have the correct pattern when bleeding the brakes. From what you wrote it sounds like you are using the correct procedure also; pump up the brakes until hard as a rock and hold the brake pedal down, release the bleeder screw and let the fluid come out then tighten. Then you can let the brake pedal back up, repeat until there are no more air bubbles in the line.
If you do all that and still have some trouble the only thing I can suggest is that you dry off all brake line connections and pump some more to see if you have a leak somewhere. If everything checks out there then the only thing left is the brake booster.
Oh and make sure you keep refiling brake fluid in the reservoir as you bleed it out.
