Has anyone bought from discount direct tire? If you have and have bought the certificate of free replacement, was it worth it? can you use it more than once? they request you send them the tire?

I might buy some new tires from them and I want to hear some real feedback.

 

where are you located at????? that warranty can be used at the store and can come in handy if you have issues with ruining tires such as punctures or blowouts......that warranty can be used at the store level as in discount tire or america's tire or discount tire direct

 

YES!!! Please get it! Cause if you don't get it, you would have to buy a new tire again if they can't fix it or ect. When you have a nail in the side or a hole. Discount won't touch it! So if you have cert, new tire and just pay the certs for the new tire! Its well worth it! I got certs and so far... never bought a tire over 2 years... I hit nails alot so... New tires for me!

Get the certs cause its worth that extra penny!

I disagree. I don't think it's worth it.

Road hazard warranties are offered by many tire dealers, including the Tire Rack*. A lot of people have misconceptions about them. Some people think that they are stuck buying a new tire if their tire is defective, whereas tires are already warrantied against defects by their manufacturers. Some people think that this includes road service (like AAA), whereas all the road hazard warranty does is provide a replacement tire or reimburse you in the event of a tire repair or replacement caused by a nail, pothole, etc.

Road hazard warranties differ from one retailer to another.

For example, Discount Tire sells a certificate for free replacement. It does nothing for you if you get a puncture that can be repaired. If your tire needs replacement, they will send you a replacement tire or you can go to any Discount Tire or America's Tire dealer for a replacement, so it may take a few days if they don't have that tire in stock. If your tire fails when you're on the road and you need to buy a replacement tire from a nearby dealer other than Discount Tire or America's Tire, it doesn't do anything for you regarding the cost of the replacement tire purchased elsewhere (although they will provide you with another replacement tire if you later bring them the damaged one).

The road hazard program from the Tire Rack works slightly differently. Unlike the Discount Tire program, which only provides a replacement tire, the Tire Rack program reimburses you for a tire repair or replacement - no matter where you have to get a tire repaired or replaced. Unlike the Discount Tire program, it reimburses (up to $25) for tire repairs, which are a lot more common than the need to replace a tire. It covers the tire down to 2/32" of tread depth, whereas the Discount Tire program covers the tire down to 3/32". The Tire Rack program reimburses for the full value of the tire in the first year, but reimburses only for a pro-rated portion of the tire's value in the second and third years of coverage. As you can see, the Tire Rack program has several advantages and at least one disadvantage compared to the Discount Tire program. Read the details about any program you're considering.

I don't think it's a BAD idea; it has some benefit. The only question is whether the benefit is worth the cost. At $10 a tire (at Discount Tire, and about that much elsewhere), it can cost almost as much as a fifth tire when you're buying a set of four. Even if you have a puncture repaired for $10-20, you still won't make back your cost for the Tire Rack program, and you won't receive anything from the Discount Tire program. What are the chances that you are going to have a tire damaged so badly that it can't be repaired, within three years of purchase with more than 2-3/32" of tread on it? I've used many, many, many tires over several decades of driving; I've driven over 500,000 miles. And the total number of times I have had to replace a tire that would have been covered under this warranty is zero. (I have had quite a few punctures repaired, perhaps an average over the years of one for every 2-3 sets of tires, and have had a couple of tires damaged needing replacement but after enough time that I would have received no coverage.)

Like most other extended warranties (on appliances, autos, etc), the road hazard warranty is a big profit generator for the tire dealers who sell it. Which tells you something - on average, most customers do not receive as much in benefit as it costs them.

However, if it gives you peace of mind ($40 worth), and/or if you can afford spending $40 now but wouldn't be able to afford buying a replacement tire later, then by all means go for it.

Again, I prefer to keep the money and take the chance.

Can you have a particular tire replaced more than once? Obviously, no, you can't. However, if you want, you can buy another certificate to cover the new replacement tire they give you.

I have purchased from DTD, don't waste your money on the replacement certificate. I did and when I had to use it, it was a huge PITA (they are great to work with in the store, online.......not so much). The Tire Rack was a bit better when I used it but still a waste of my money when it came down to it.

sorry to say nsxtasy but the retail part of the store does take of the warranty if there is not a store in the area... they will reimburse you the money you had to pay out because there was not a store around to help you out....and as you say the tire rack does not cover replace the tire for free for the whole tire down to 2/32nds...well discount does cover the tire for the whole life of the tire for free which is down to 3/32nds of its life ( with no pr rating like the rack after the first year so there is a big difference between the two stores).........

Don't be sorry - that's a good thing! However, I didn't see anything about that on their website description of the tire warranty. Whatever warranty you're considering, read it closely, in writing, to be sure of what it does and doesn't cover, and how you go about using it.

True, but the Tire Rack warranty reimburses you for tire repairs that don't require replacing the tire, which are much much MUCH more common than replacements due to road hazards, and which the Discount Tire warranty doesn't cover at all. Granted, tire repairs cost less, but you're still a whole lot more likely to get at least something back with the Tire Rack warranty. I still don't think either one is really worth it, but if I had to choose one over the other, I would take the Tire Rack warranty due to its coverage of tire repairs.

 

fortunately if there is a discount or america's tire store around then you don't have to worry abount spending money on flat repairs....that is were the problem lies with the rack they don't have any stores around to support there part of the market...

(And no, I don't work for the Tire Rack; I just like people to have complete and accurate information so they can make their own choices.)

 

I usually buy 3 tires at one Discount Tire Shop with NO road hazzard warranties.

Then I go to another Disc Tire and take one of my wheels and have them mount 1 new tire and I get a road hazzard warranty.

Chances are if i get a flat it will be on one tire...and I will have to take the wheel off and put on my spare.

I take my single warranty and my single wheel with the busted tire in for a repair or replacement.

I never buy all 4 warranties. Only 1 if all the tires are the same make and style

I see nothing wrong with it.

If I purposely mess up my tires to get fresh ones, then YES. That is unethical and fraudulent.

But one warranty covering all 4 tires? C'mon. Gimme a break

I've had great service at Americas tire. And I bought a warranty on my first set of tires but never had to use it. So ever since I've never bought the extra warranty...and never needed it. Most of the time it's more money in their pockets.

Say I buy all 4 warranties and never use them. Do I get my money back? Nope. But yet car dealers offer an extended warranty and if you don't use it you can get your money back on them if you ask for it before the warranty expires.

If I blow all 4 tires at once then I can understand buying all 4 warranties at the point of purchase but since the odds are I'll most likely blow one tire I choose to buy one warranty at a time and use it only when necessary.

I've done it many times and even explained it to whomever is checking me out at the register because they aren't stupid. They see that I bought several tires in the system and that only 1 has a road hazzard warranty. "Why didn't you buy all 4 warranties at the same time?" is what they ask and I say "Why buy all 4 when chances are only 1 will need it?" They don't argue. They even say it's a slick way to save money but don't condone it because they lose potentially free money. I always buy a new warranty anyway on the new tire they replace the old one with.

You say it's wrong. I say in the end it doesn't matter. Get off your high horse already. I suppose you expect me to believe that all your MP3's/media are all legal too, eh?

As for the OP, I give a to discount tire simply because they pricematch, they do free repairs, free rotation and they have plenty of locations across the country.

The tires already have a warranty from the manufacturer.

 

Discount Tire Direct will price match any tire or any wheel they carry as long as you have the site or ad. I did this with my Enkei RPF-1's and got them cheap. Of course they have to verify that the competing retailer has them in stock but they will match.

I've never seen serial numbers become a problem at all when returning a blown tire. Here in Houston, TX it's worth it. This city is one big pothole.

Double check your pricing because when I buy tires from Discount Tire Direct or Tire Rack I always get charged TAX. It's BS because other tire dealers don't charge tax. Now if you find the same tires at another dealer and offer free shipping they will lower the price on the tires so that the tax is worked into the final total. Atleast that's what they did for me when I bought my Enkeis from them

No. It's the same as any other aftermarket warranty, or car insurance - you are buying something that protects you if something goes wrong, and that gives you no money if nothing goes wrong.

I have NEVER gotten charged sales tax when ordering tires from either dealer. (Some states have other tire fees required by law, as noted here, but Texas is not one of them.)

Mail order companies usually charge tax if they have stores/offices in the state where the item is being shipped to. So if you buy tires to be shipped to a state where the Tire Rack has warehouses (Indiana, Nevada, Delaware, Louisiana, or Georgia), then you probably pay that state's sales tax. Other states, you don't. (This is the same with the Tire Rack as with any other company.)

I believe Discount Tire Direct operates as a separate legal entity from their Discount Tire and America's Tire retail stores, so they don't charge sales tax unless you're in whatever state they ship from (I don't know where that is).

Every tire dealer I have ever seen charges whatever sales tax (and other taxes) are required by law in the place where they are located.

I'm not sure what point you are trying to make. The previous discussion was about whether or not to purchase a road hazard warranty at extra cost when buying tires. Yes, tire manufacturers have a warranty against manufacturing defects which does not provide coverage if the tire is damaged by a road hazard (nail, debris, pothole, etc). Just as I already stated.

That has absolutely nothing to do with a warranty you purchase at extra cost, which is what the previous quote refers to.
