Default anyone have pics of BROKEN stock ITR LSD/diff?

i have a minty fresh JDM ITR tranny in my car i was thinking about selling it with my swap and running my extra GSR tranny with a Quaife or maybe an OBX (but probably not) LSD... so i have been doing some searching cuz i have heard of stock ITR LSD's breaking, yet i found no posts or pics of broken ones. all i have found is a ghost rumor it seems...

although in my search i have found many people that said "if it aint broke dont fix it"... but if my car throws a rod you cant really fix that, can you? so if a stock diff breaks how much damage is it really gonna cause?

so....anyone got some pics they can post up for me? thank you, i appreciate it

What are you looking to do with the car? Will it be a really high-powered drag car or something? I can't imagine you'd be putting enough strain on it in any other situation to cause it to break.

I've not heard of them breaking. If anyone was going to break it, it'd probably be me too

I still have one in my ITR. I wouldn't worry about it.

I was thinking this same thing over when I drove on a FL flat for a mile or so, as I was starting out on my Thanksgiving day trip.

And frankly, that's why you're supposed to put the spare on the rear of a car with an LSD (if its a front driver).

when its in the tranny though? can you take some pics of it?

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Stinkycheezmonky &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">What are you looking to do with the car? it wont be a "drag car". i wont build a car that i cant drive on the street. but it will be drag raced, mostly street used/abused. the plan at the moment is (i have 70% of the parts): built (everything but sleeves) turbo B16A. lookin in the range of 400whp on pump gas. no plans to run it on race gas at the moment cuz i wont have a clutch that will hold the power. would like to go with a twin disc but that might just be too much money at the moment. so it will probly be a heavy pressure plate and full race disc (good for around 270ft tq wheels).

the thing is that im brutal to my car, i love it, but i wont hold back. like i said i build cars to drive them. my buddy points a camera at my car and says go for it, you can bet there is gonna be a second gear clutch drop

anyway i had a couple diffs explode in previous cars (cant imagine why? lol) both were tired *** cable trannies (one a D-series, one B-series) and open diffs... both left a stain on the road and the B-series tranny left a HUGE hole out the case.
so this "if it aint broke dont fix it" does not fit into my budget if it leaves me without my mint ITR tranny

Well, if you've broken open diffs before, I guess you'll probably break an OEM LSD. You say you don't baby your cars. Are you driving them hard just to drive them hard, or to be fast? Because being fast does not in any way, shape, or form involve abusing the car the way you're describing. If you don't want to break your tranny, treat it with some respect and it won't crap out on you. You're probably going to be putting stress on the shift forks, gears, and synchros if you're abusive anyway, so worrying only about the diff is a moot point.

u wlda broken open diffs cause the spider gears wear the diff pin and it shoots out the gearbox and leaves a hole. Even a stock motor can do this to worn open diffs.

the stock type R diff is pretty strong, run that till or IF you have problems. I doubt u will tho.

However iv seen a few old visous diffs brake where the axel circlip connects into them. had to be welded up

i think you are wasting your time with an itr tranny. its really more tranny than you need to abuse. you could save alot of dough by selling it and getting an ls tranny, cryo treating it, and weld your dif together. i think that will suit you well.
