Default My B18C1 N/A setup so far...pics

Please Click the Blue Bordered Images to View Full Size
Hello everyone,

I was wondering if any of you could shot me a few pointers on my B18C1 N/A setup?

Here's a sum of what i have:

Motor:
Weapon R short ram intake
JG/EDELBROCK 65mm TB
JG/EDEL. IM
JG/EDEL. Header (2.25")
Flowmonster cat (2.25")
Tanabe Ultra medallion exhaust (2.36")
Bosch Spark plugs and wires
Koyo radiator

Transmission:
Exedy Stage I clutch
(No flywheel unfortunately).

I don't really want to go too far into the internals of the motor (i.e. Boring, polising, pistons, compression, etc.).
I know with a 2.25" exhaust system, getting to 200whp is going to be extremely difficult, and may not even happen.
But that's ok, i just want enough power for a daily, street driven car to suit my expectations...

BTW, i just recently purchased Blox Type B camshafts with skunk2 cam gears. Only need the valve train to complete it.

What does everyone think of my set up so far?
And theoretically, what type of #'s do you believe i'd be putting on a dyno?

Thanks for your help.

~Alex

O ya, last thought. I am thinking about getting a Hondata or Crome later on to see more potential from my motor, but most likely, save up and get an AEM EMS to avoid swapping my obd2 to an obd1.

Alot of power can be unleashed at the head, try cams and springs, that will definitly give you noticeable power, also if you have the dough you can go for a hondata.

It's hard saying your exact WHP, but i think if you did put it on the dyno..

You would see that the intake manifold is killing you in mid-high range rpms

That intake manifold really shines on engine with more displacement, more compression, and bigger cams than your engine has.

I would suggest a ported ITR manifold, or even a smoothed-over AEBS manifold for this setup.

wOrd, I upgraded my JG edelbrock intake manifold with a BLOX IM and 65mm throttle body and it made a world of difference.

Ya that was my biggest mistake. But what i think i'm going to do is sell the IM and go for a Skunk2 IM or a Blox.
Reason i got the IM is because guy i got it off of sold it to me as a package...Both the IM and TB for $275. So, i really don't think i lost on it...it was just the installation that killed me (labor prices are ridiculous)...

i'd switch out that im like state before. I like the aebs because it's cheap and makes the numbers. But either of the others are good choices also. Once you figure out how big you want to go, you can make the mods necissary. The head is where you'll make most of the power, the bottom end is just a reflection of your head setup. keep up the good work.

better smaller IM (type r, skunk2, etc), better, larger header like SMSP

you can make over 200 on a 2.25" ex. im pushing 215whp, but im running higher compression and bigger cams, and lots of headwork.

You're not gonna get 200whp with what you have/plan doing w/out raising your compression.

Guys what do you think of this?

Ok, i think i'm going to go with a BLOX IM and someone offered me their valvetrain (Skunk2 valves, retainers, and dual springs) for $400.
Great deal!

Once i swap the IM for a smaller runner, i think i'll get my midrange back, because it's all top end right now. I love it on the freeway... but streets is a bizatch...

lol...i knew what i was doing, until i realized that my goal wasn't too completely go all out on whp. I just wanted a decent amount...in between the range i listed above...
So this IM i have right now isn't suiting my satisfaction. I mean it's great on freeways when it kicks in at 6500rpm, but on streets, it sucks to pick up speed!

But ya bro, i think swapping out the IM is going to restore most of my midrange power back.

...btw, there's always room for improvement and learning =D

Yeah, they're more agressive, but you won't be getting the full, or most of, the cams' potential power without raising the compression.
