erratic idle and vtec questions
Hey! ok I gor 2 questions
lets start with the problemtatic one:
I am not sure if this only happens when its cold outside but this started occuring few days ago when it got lot colder outside. When I start my Civic Si VTEC Coupe 94 it revs at 2000 ( i'm guessing to heat the engine up), and if i leave it running for 5 min and then go, there will be no problems. BUT when i do not leave it running for 5 min or so and just start and leave on the spot and then at a stop i press my clutch the idle will keep jumping from around 800-1500 (this stopps hapenning after 5 min of driving).
and question number 2:
I'm new to vtech and somone told me it should kick in around 4400 RPM. I am looking to buy a chip for my ECU, but the ones on ebay for my ecu P28 are all set to 5700 RPM kick in. I am not sure if it is better for the vtec to kick in at 4400 or at 5700 RPM
any suggestions please.

I had that same problem w/ my hatch, check your Throttle cable all the way up into the firewall and make sure that there is no worn pieces, if there are any wires showing you need to replace it...and if not then take it to a shop while it is idling crazy and they can manually adjust it.
ebay is full of crap... Dony buy into 99% of the stuff on there.
vtec should be at 5500 +200rpm...leave it there.
The car is supposed to idle high at startup when its cold.
The fluctuating is probably a dirty IACV. Clean it - located back of the intake manifold (2 collant lines, 1 e- connector.) Search for how to do this

It will idle real high if you have a could air intake, I live in wi and my civic does that,
what engine do you have? The vtec doesn't engage at 4400, is it a gsr? if it is, the gsr has butterfly valves that open at 4400, maybe thats the cross over you are hearing.
