Default 3800 to spend on engine

aiite, well my engine hydrolocked on my 99 gsr... got all water out and finally got started but bad rod knock so engine is pretty much done...car was shown to insurance and towed to mechanic. my car is 99gsr w/ 67k and the mecanic found a 2000 gsr motor wit 60k on it which will cost 4800 to install which insurance will cover, this is including my 1000 dollar deductable.... so the thing i'm wondering is if i should let them swap engine and do it easy way, or since im entitled to the money i was thinking of buying itr pistons, rods, etc and getting my engine rebuilt, will this be enouh money?.. let me know what you guys think, thanks and sorry for the long post

3800 Would probably be enough. But if you are paying someone to do it you must think about all the labor involved.

consider a short ram or bypass valve before u invest in anything but u should have enough money only thing is labor will take a good bite.. or u could do it ur self

i would built it. check if you see white smoke coming out your tail pipe, that can at least see your block is not crack, and there things like compression test.

i would rebuild the same motor that hydrolocked. if you drop in another motor its going to lose value when it comes down to selling the car since its not the original motor.....and the other gsr engine the mechanic found could running like **** burning oil to max....the mechanic doesnt care he justs wants his part of the $.

Rebuild the same motor, then boost it.

yea im gonna rebuild it... im thinking itr pistons, and rods... what else will i need to replace for it to be good (crank, valves etc)?... i just want it to be oem n reliable nothing to crazy but maybe throw in a nice mild cam like sks1, let me know wat u think... got shitty dc 4-1 header thats dented n needs to be replaced, SMSP cat, apexi ws2 exhaust n AEm CAI... this was good enough for 14.8 with just minor weight reduction so im aiming at low 14s

I hydrolocked my car and got the loud rod knock just like you. I towed her home, pulled the rod and replaced it. Total, $138, and 50K miles later, no problems.

That being said, since your getting a fat check, have your crank checked to make sure there was no damage. You could get a Golden Eagle stroker crank and have some serious power when your done. Definitely rebuild your engine and send your head off to be ported and polished. Good luck with the project.
