Default How To: EG Center Console in EF

Anybody have any useful advice for getting these things in an EF Sedan (90)? It's a pain, and i'm considering fabricating my own mounts, but is there an easier way?

never mind, i just used the mounting brackets i had, cut the carpet, removed the bottom part of the dash (where the cig lighter is) and mounted it there, then drilled holes in the console to fit. The E-brake cover still doesnt fit, but I plan on doing an auto to manual seat belt conversion, so it will fit after that.

I don't have any pics of the install process, but it's pretty self explanitory, and I'll prolly post up pics tomorrow, because I have to work from 5pm to 1am tonight (stupid retail and black friday). I'll also post up a more detailed install process, and how i fixed the stupid cup holder assembly as well.

ill post pics as soon as my camera stops being gay. but here's a more detailed write up on it:

1. Remove center piece of dash (around where the heat controls/stereo are) by removing the two screws on the left, and two on the right. You'll have to pull the glove box down to get to one of them.

2. There are two screws holding the ashtray/cig lighter piece together with the other piece. Remove these two screws and replace the top portion.

3. Remove your old center console. There are two screws up top, and two in the center (i think....). After that, it's a pain to get off, but it should be able to slide towards the front of the car.

4. Once that's off, you'll see a support/stiffner piece under where you removed the cig lighter/ashtray piece. It should be bolted down onto the ground. Remove this piece, and replace it with the piece you got from the junkyard (hopefully. if not, you may be able to mount it to the stock one, but it won't hold as well.) At this point, you're going to have to cut the carpet, so make sure you don't cut any excess. I cut mine straight down the center, and then around it. You should be able to piece the carpet back together later if you want.

5. Place the shiftboot portion on, and you'll notice that it won't line up with the mounts. So now, get a screwdriver, and drill a pilot hole through the console at the same height so it lines up with the brackets on each side.

6. Put the console back on, screw it in, and you're done!

The E-brake portion of mine doesn't fit because of the stupid auto seat belts on the 90, so I plan on converting those to the regular ones, and putting one with an armrest If anybody has a good write up on how to replace the stupid autoseatbelts, let me know.

lol, i'll try to get them up asap. some people may prefer the dc2 center console, but i got this one for $5 and it works/looks a lot better than my stock one, so I'm happy.
