Default xkagax's EF buildup thread UPDATED***

12/1/06 UPDATED PICS AT BOTTOM OF PAGE 1

so my brother and I picked up this EF shell for $350 w/ a clean title. Had an LS swap in it at somepoint and didn't work right so the kid just sold it to a local shop. I was suprised how clean the body was minus the paint and the driver side fender. We swapped out friends CRX si with a jdm obd0 B16a a while back so we had the stock motor still chilling at a buddies house.

+'s
clean body, clean interior, cheap + NO RUST. Free d16a6 (prolly do a b16 later on).

-'s
use to be auto (not that bad since its already been converted), wiring sucks, DX so have to convert to MPFI. oh yeah... under the front carpet was all moldy, and there were goddamn cockroaches everywhere. We bombed it immediatly.

Day 1:

Update 11/23/06

stripped out most of the interior and engine bay. Ordered a full CRX SI interior harness for the inside so I can just throw in the D16a6 and roll. (Plus some of my wiring was hacked up) also got a stock steering wheel (thank god) from a 4dr EX for $5.99 . Painted most of the engine bay and fixed the driver side mount (was bent inward a bit). Oh yeah and I Picked up the motor.

next up:
prep for paint/finish getting sound deadening ****/wait for wire harness for interior to get here and spray interior floor with truck lining

Good find! I love the '91 DX's because they got the painted bumpers from the factory. Unless the previous owner painted them or swapped them for Si's, which i doubt.

we're just gonna spray rustoleum under the front where the carpet is, but in the back I'm gonna leave the side panels in and spray the floor with truck bed coating... because its tight.

I just took out my carpet and sprayed rubberized coating called 'undercoating' under the seats and in the footwells and I swear it's so much quiter. I tried the sound deadening route before and this **** actually works! It's only $1.87 per can at wal-mart too. That combined with a new carpet would make it super quiet. Also, it's intended to be sprayed under the car as well so all that combined would make for a quiet ride. Just thought I'd pass that info along since I've been down the sound deadening route before

yeah actually I used that stuff under the carpet/area you said. We only did the truck bed coating on the rear floor where there isn't any carpet.

I didn't know you could replace the interior harness in order to avoid converting to MPFI?

new pics 12/1/06:

got all the sound deadening tar out and sprayed a thin layer or rubberized coating over the front half, then sprayed the rear with truck bed lining. I'm going to have the side panels in the rear in so I only did the floor.

Also I got my CRX si full cabin harness.... so I'm pretty sure this is going to be the most frustrating part of the whole rebuild.. I got a good amount done today but here it is when I first started:

painted the rest of the engine bay, and sprayed the hood (needs to be wetsanded desperately...)

oh yeah and I got a 90-93 accord front lip for $4 at the junk yard

Next up: Finish interior harness and put the carpet/dash/spacro's in, engine should go in prolly next weekish.

Once I get it running on the si motor, my teg is going up for sale (in stock form of couse). I'm looking for a 94-97 ls so I can still use the wheels/suspension on it, then just daily the LS... and get some good stuff for this Stay tuned.

I want it to be my autox/meet car or w/e. Thinkin function/form coilovers, obdo b16 w/cams and bolt ons, most likely go w/ some DA brakes.

I really want some equips, but meh, all that ***** later on after I get this running and sell my GSR so for now I'm on a budget. Prolly sometime spring it'll start picking up.
