Default EG vs. EK?

The question is what are the Pros and Cons for have a EG and a EK. I am looking into buying a hatch but im not too sure and what kind I want. I hear that EG are lighter which is good because I want a everyday/weekend car. But EK's are built with reenforced chassis and what not... plus they look better. But i really need an answer on which is really the best in the long run? And which one can I get the most power out of.

Power: Both are the same, exactly the same motor options for both chassis. EG will always be lighter though, so always faster assuming equal mods.

Safety: EK is much better, they feel like better built cars (i've owned 4 EKs and 7EGs so i know what i'm talking about).

Chassis: Both good, i prefer the EK personally.

There's a reason EF/EG dominate most racing series in the scca. They're lighter and thus with the same mods they're usually faster. But personally, a 99-00 EK is still my favorite honda.

Personal opinion, buy the one that suits you more!

ALSO, EG's have many compatible parts with DC or 94-01 integras, so finding used and/or aftermarket parts should be even easier than with EKs.
I would decide based on looks, neither is a bad choice.

I agree the EG does have that "old school" look and definetly easier to turn into JDM hottness with the wide variety of part availability.
Next Question:
Since you can find a EG around for pretty much under 3k that leaves a lot of extra cash for a engine swap. I done a little searching and I definetly don't want to go as far as a H22 but I looked into b16a and b18c are the most common swaps for any civic.
I was just wondering what you guys had to say about a b16a vs. b18c??
The b18c seems like it would weight down the car a little more than the b16 but it does have 20 extra hps to make up for it. Anyways...just wondering what you guys have to say!

easy, EKs are fat n heavy, ugly, newer(hence they should cost more)

BUT , i think state farm was the one that has the 95 hatch as the most stolen car, my insurance lvl is a 15 compared to a accord sadan being an 11. Just a lil info.

I think that the weight between the tow engines are not that different. they might actually weigh almost the same, 1.6-1.8 is vwry close its only displacement not engine size. so i wouldnt worry about it. just get whatever you will be happy with, they are both very good honda engines.

What's really fun with the EK's is CTR parts. They's expensive though. I got lucky and picked up an EK with a B16 already sitting in it for $3500. I had always thought the door handles on the EG looked cooler than the EK but after going from my EG coupe to my EK hatch I realized the door handles on the EK are much easier to deal with. I had also thought the mirrors looked better on the EG, but then I realized for the hatches, the practicality of them. Internally adjustable mirrors in the cheap models. I hated the bug-eyed headlights at first but then realized they had a level in them to help you aim them. Then I got to looking at the Type-R headlights (which I have) and the SiR headlights and realized they look damn good. I started looking at what you could do with EK's and they just got better and better looking to me. I even thought Midori green was ugly when I first saw it but then realized, "hey it's actually pretty good looking". I started looking at other EK hatches and they just look awesome. I had always based what I thought of EK's on the sedan's and coupes that I saw in town. The coupes aren't that bad looking but the hatches look awesome. The sedans, however, to me look like ***. And as others have stated the EK's are newer and safer but a tad heavier. In my case even though I went from EG to EK I still got a lighter car going from EX coupe to CX hatch.

I'll tell you this much though that you ain't keeping your EG if you hit a Jeep Cherokee head on even if you are both going slow. Damn that Cherokee f'ed up my poor coupe bad.

I agree with both.

I say the only major con of an EG is that it's old (minimum of 11 years old) - things are worn out, hard to find one in good condition.

Other than that they're basically the same with the exception of the obvious cosmetic changes...EK's had an optional alarm/keyless entry I do believe. Both respond pretty equally to bolt-ons (like ****, if you want something that responds well to bolt-ons, you'll need a motor swap).

It's basically up to you. I like EG models more than EK's, The EK coupes are nice, but I'd never buy an EK sedan or DEFINITELY not the hatch. As far as EG vs EK coupe I just think they're different, I don't like one over the other.

Basically the same 'cept for cosmetics and age when it comes down to it.

The weights for the same models are really close to the same ie eg dx and a ek dx.. The vx and hf models in the eg are the only ones that are alot lighter...

Go with whatever your budget can handle and what you like aesthetically.. I've had both.. 3 eg's hatches 1 coupe and one ek hatch... I was a hardcore diehard eg fan until I got my ek... They are both very similar but the ek has grown on me...

If you want power.. Boost your D and forget about a swap.. Run Crome or Hondata and get it tuned.. I put 65,000 hard miles on my boosted d completely stock with only upgraded injectors.... 207whp/195wtq.. 2-3 sets of tires a year and brakes every 6 months.. IN those 65k I went through 3 sets of axles and 3 tranny rebuilds.. All daily driven commute traffic goodness...

I now have a gsr swapped into my ek and I do miss the power.. 200whp B series are not cheap to do.. If you blow the D series buy another one for $200 and throw it in...

I spent $2200 on my turbo kit including tuning, hondata and a clutch... 207whp/196wtq

I spend $3700 on my gsr swap into my ek including a new clutch, flywheel, waterpump, timing belt, wires and plugs....150whp/112wtq on the same dyno that my turbo D was tuned on...

You choose what floats your boat...

i say if you are going to take it to the track just get the EG(lighter)

but if you are going to have it as a daily driver then get an EK (newer)

they are generally the same.. i say go with whichever one you like better.

I wanted to get a EG but i had trouble finding a clean, unmolested one.... so i got a EK
