Default windshield/window molding question.

initially, i was under the impression that the moldings that went around the windshield and the quarter-panel windows could only be replaced by pulling the window off the chassis. i've seen a few pictures floating around h-t lately that have made me think otherwise. is this possible? i'm confused.

i dont think it's possible at all if you want it done right.

if you have the older windshield molding, or your windshield never been replaced before, then it nearly impossible to remove it with the windhshield in place. In most cases, the installer (if you're not DIY) will ask for new windshield molding prior to the windshield removal.

the rear 1/4 panel window molding is also a bitch to remove because it has one clip attached to the window frame, underneath the window glass. The proper way to remove and replace it is to remove the glass.

the rear lift gate window is the same thing. if you want to do it right, you must remove the glass as well.

these are some of the things i hate about the CRX.

Are you going to do this yourself?

i was thinking about it IF the moldings could be changed without having to take the window off. since it seems like it's not possible, i doubt i will.

Yeah, I wouldn't take any chances. If there is one thing I hate it is leaks.

honda makes 2 different windshield moldings. one can be installed with the window still in, the other moldings need the windows taken out

if the molding on your car is the factory one or was installed with the window removed all you have to do is cut the molding off very carefully. You kind of gotta keep trimming it with a razor blade entill you can remove it with the clips without breaking glass. Then buy molding from Honda for window already installed. they sell two moldings one with window in, and one with window out.
good luck, Colnago
