I just installed a Skunk2 cat-back and it muffler pops like crazy. Especially when the RPM's drop from 6-3K. Also when I shift at redline also. It almost sounds like backfire, but they are not small explosions. Just pops. I plan on getting a JDM DC 4-1 header and a hi-flow cat, will this make the noise worse?

I have a silencer, will that help? TIA!!!!

 

i think you might be overreacting --- a little popping sound is kinda normal

 

i think that sounds badass, my DC catback does it too sometimes.. but then again, i love rotaries

Unburned gasses huh, so i am not the only one.

 

I think it's kinda fun I run pretty rich too, Prelude Vtec 23 says he saw a blue flame spit out of my exhause once

was it making it before you put on the exhaust? why would an exhaust cause unburnt fuel to go in there?

 

It's very common, almost expected, when you have an unchambered muffler such as the Skunk2. You really can't do much to stop it. The silencer will only silence the pops...lol. And yeah, it'll get worse when you put in the hi-flow cat.

 

I, for one, do not think the popping sounds are 'cool' or 'tizzite'.

My car starting doing that too when I put my new exhaust (SMSP 2.5" stainless) on, but it only does it when the car/engine is cold and on high idle until everything warms up.
