Header install, CEL
Just installed an exhaust header. CEL is now on. Is it due to the new header burning off "the new" and the o2 sensor detecting it? It is not a real concern, as long as it will go away in a few days time. Will it go away? How do I make it go away otherwise?
i just instaled my cat back HKS exhaust and my car is doing the same thing. This sucks!! i don't think its bad but i hate seeing the light on when im driving the car.

is there a Cat still? If not then thats why you have the CEL. You need to make a Mechanical 02 SIM.

When I installed my header, the CEL light came on a bit after.
It's because the sensors were giving the same reading. Theirs a way to bypass that or just put a K-Pro and you'll get rid of it.
In my case, I have a Race Header with no cat, hence the CEL.

your situation and his are totally different. You have a race header with no cat, he has a shorty with a cat.

Okay, the code I got was: (forgot number) but it was "primary oxygen sensor unit malfunction" or something like that. I am going to build a 02 sim to fix it.
uhh try this. disconnect your negative battery terminal. step on the brake a few times. let the car sit. step on the brake a little more for good measure. reconnect the battery. start the engine. i do this to get rid of the CEL's (but only if oyu know why theyre on. i did it wen i installed my intake b/c i knew it was getting a higher air flow. i also did it when i did my headers cuz the o2 sensors sensed higher air flow in my cat.) just my 2 cents
CELs are not a one time thing. All thats happening is that computer is seeing something 'not stock' and letting you know about it. If it is a race header, this is to be expected since you are deleting a car and the o2 sensors are used to a specific band of readings. Anything over or under numberous times, you will get a CEL.
As for the battery disconnect-reconnect trick, it does not work with out cars. The computer is smart enough to store the CEL in its memory until later erased/cleared. In short, you need an OBD-II code snanner/reader (rented or bought for under $60)
I would ask if the header was a aftermarket replacement for the shorty or indeed a full race-header (cat delete)?
Please get the CEL scanned and tell us what it is so we can help, thanks buddy!

The battery trick DOES work.
I did that on my car.
The CEL will go away.
For instance, if you have a CEL on, you fix that sensor of yours, unplug your battery, plug it back it in. Your CEL will be gone for good.
i.e.:
RH install, it causes a CEL light.
Put the 02 Sim in.
Unplug the battery.
Plug it back in.
CEL is gone!

I have ot built the sim yet because I know there is something I am doing wrong. When I got underneath the car I noticed that the primary o2 sensor wires had been pulled out of the plug. I hooked everything back up the way it made sense to me, but the CEL is still on the same as before. I have tried all types of different ways to "reset" the ECU and nothing works. Does anyone have a diagram to which color wires go where on the sensor itself? Or better yet if someone could post a pic of their o2 sensor that is working, I could go off of that. I just really really want to get this CEL to go away since my car is burning too rich right now and wasting too much fuel. Please help. Thanks.
If the problem is fixed, does the code have to be cleared with equipment or will it clear itself after a few days? What I am asking is if having the code cleared is the only way.

I was always under the impression that OBDII had to be cleared. Either way it only takes 10 min to run to an atuo parts store and them clear it.

If you still have a catylitic converter then your 02 sensor seems to need a replacing rather than the 02 sim fix. You do in fact have a CAT still, right? I know you said yes before but I just want to make sure.
What kind of header is it? I see that you wrote this:
"No the cat is still intact. Exhaust header to stock mid/cat to cat back system. ???"
So you have, a shorty header, that goes to the stock downpipe/Cat, then to a midpipe, and then to the catback.

All I need to know is what wire color goes to what wire color. The o2 sensor has black, black, white, green. The engine has black with red stripe, blue, green, white. Currently hooked up green to green, white to white, black to blue, black to black with red stripe. This combination is not working. I need someone to look under their car and tell me what color goes to what color and/or does polarity matter on two black wires on the o2 side?
Well have you gona and cleared the code yet? Id help ya out with the colors, but I cant jack my car up. I need to borrow my friends low rise.
I cant really even do the 2x4 trick either to get it up.
