Default recomended dc5 upgrade path

hey guys! been lurking aournd the forum lately and i'd just like to have your opinions,

i am currently starting to upgrade the power of my k20a (dc5). currently, am running on dropin k&n filter, stock dc5 everything and my spoon muffler. my suspension was first which is tein SS.

now, first off, i am planning to change my intake to cold air, and headers to mugen then change the full exhaust. would you recommend 3"? after this, am planning to change my cams and valves to toda along for a more wild setup. oh did i forget to mention, i already have a k-pro to fine tune it.

my dilemna is.. i DONT want to lose my lowend power as i go to the track every now and then. suggestions? comments? i would greatly appreciate them. thanks!

Unless you are boosted... I would GENERALLY stay away from anthing bigger than about 2.5" or 2.75". UNLESS you know how to tune REALLY WELL, you can usually compensate for the larger exhuast... but unless you are boosted, I wouldn't go that big on an NA motor.

with regards to the tuning, i am quite confident since my mechanics are quite awesome. but i wouldn't go if its too much, was just wondering if the toda cams can compensate for it.. guess not.

so... rephrasing the question, at this upgrade path, should i go 2.5 or 2.75? i know of someone who had a 3" pipe in his dc5, mugen headers, mugen box, intake, it was ok, but i'd jsut hate to lose all the torque

thanks for the fast reply Miracle!

Unless you are running some sort of high compression setup, or nitrous to increase the amount of oxygen going in/coming out of the motor, 3 inches TYPICALLY drops too much in backpressure to maintain low end torque.

Your DC5 came with the K20A JDM ITR motor,so the compression is 11.5:1. You may be able to run a 2.75" pipe for best low end kick.... You want to keep it small, but not so small as to cause TOO much backpressure, and choke out the exhaust.

yeah dude, you understand me well, the stock exhaust is tooo constricted. once i run 150kph, it gets a hard time raising it to 180 - 200.

yeah if i were you i would go with a buddy club spec 3 exhaust system, its a good size exhaust but not too big like 3", and actually puts down some power
