Default dangers of battery?

I've moved the battery to the rear hatch area of my si, but now I hear that you shouldn't have batteries in the car due to health hazards. What's the story with this?

There's acid in it, if that spills, its a nasty mess. You can get an Optima dry cell battery, that will be safe back there.

They release hydrogen gas when charging. Optimas are GEL cell not DRY cell. The acid is disolved in glass mat. Get a sealed battery. do not use a maintenence free or vented!
