yo yo. quick first bike question
hey all. ive been interested in bikes for quite some time now and believe a bike is in the near future. im signed up to start classes this weekend. ive done my research but would appreciate some more insight, im 20yrs old and want a 06 cbr600rr. it will be my first bike. ive had minimal riding experiance but i know how to get on a bike and ride it. from what ive been told this bike is acceptable for a 1st. not too much power, but a sh*tload of power...if ya know what i mean. thanks!

yo yo, i'm going to assume D Day was imploying sarcasm.
I would say that an 06 600rr is a horrible first bike. You didn't really mention having any previous riding experience, you just said you know how to get on a bike and ride one. Well, that doesn't make you nicky hayden, it just means you might be a small step ahead of your class mates.
The 600rr is no slouch, it's a very fast bike, it's heavy (in comparison to Ninja 250s) and it's not easy on the insurance. Why a brand new bike? I'm not terribly against people getting 600s as their first bikes, mostly because my friend and I did, and we did ok. But i've also seen plenty of people who started on 600s and it turned out to be a huge mistake. Getting in to riding is kind of a gamble. Some people are naturals at it, and others need lots of work/practice. Some find that riding just isn't for them, and others sell everything they own for bike parts. The point is, you haven't figured out what kind of person you are yet because you haven't really been riding. To go out and finance a brand new bike (and pay out the *** for insurance because of this), and a 600 no less, is a terrible way to see whether riding is for you.
Since you're signed up for the MSF class already it sounds like you're trying to be responsible about the whole thing, which is great. Hopefully you'll spend gobs of money on gear and wear it. But, to me, buying a brand new first bike is retarded. You will most likely drop it at some point, we all do, and you'll be heart broken that you hurt your brand new bike. You instantly lose a ton of money the moment you roll out the door because the value drops. You probably won't be able to afford insurance if you're financing because it will be upwards of 3k a year.
I'm ranting.
Basically, i would suggest looking at used 600s. If you're set on the RR, look at 03-04 used RRs. You'll save yourself money, and they're friggin awesome bikes. Plenty powerful enough to kill yourself on accident.

3 things
dont get a new bike
buy the cheapest 600 u can get ur hands on that is still reliable.
wear full gear
im very sure that youre going to do everything in your power to get a 600rr though. dont bother, its not a good first bike.

why an 06 600rr? and who are you getting your advice from?
im all for new riders getting the bike they've longed for. but generally the rule is to start as small as possible.
of course there are exceptions to every rule, but most (if not all) new riders dont do well on supersports >250/500cc's

yo yo if your looking for a great starter bike i might have what your looking for.. its what i started out on... $1000 1991 kawa zx600D... it has just over 6K on it (i think) it is not the best looking bike ( but when you dump, drop, crash it) who really cares.. then you can say you learned how to ride and it only costed you
$1000 for the bike
$500+ for gear
$256 a year for insurance
not too bad if you ask me... that's how i started out.. ask anyone out there, most people will say get a cheap bike. bikes fall over its life. y spend 4-5k on a bike to learn on? im glad i didn't.
if you are looking to buy a bike, you should start looking now.. bike are going to go cheaper now vs. in the spring time...
this is just my 2 cents

yo yo, the 600rr has more than enough power to get even the most experienced rider in trouble in a hot min cuz. If they tell you otherwise they be straight frontin son.
For real though, I wouldn't start out on that bike...start on something more managable that you can dump out on if you have to...and for god sakes, a wife beater, gym shorts and flip flops do not constitute protective riding gear. Do yourself a favor and get some though because I have a feeling your not going to listen to anyone about beginer bike selection and your going to need it.

If you were any kind of man with ***** you would buy an 06 1000rr for your first bike.
But honestly, buy a F4i or 01-03 gsxr 600. Both forgiving bikes that are comfortable, and don't have a lot of power but still have a sh*tload, if ya'know what i mean.

600s dont have enough power for your 1st bike. i know some said a busa but i would only get it if it had a turbo on it and i think you will be fine since the amount of riding experience you have
take it from me you cant do power wheelies on a 600 and impress all the ladies
