Default If building a tubular mani is it ok to mig weld then tig

I dont have a tig, so i was thinking once i mock everything up i'll tack it with a mig and have someone do a finaly tig on it. I was wondering if that is ok

I dont really know, im going to do mild steel sch 40 1.5"... I might mig it and see how it turns out

Why is that? I've heard of people welding mild steel with stainless wire, but what's the benefit? Mild steel wire is way cheaper than stainless wire too.

i think he said use stainless wire because he assumed you were using stainless material.

you could use the stainless and it shouldnt affect it. but if you were doin lets say ASTM A-36 AND 316 SS you would want to use 309 SS. If you had to machine a part that was ASTM A-36 welded with 309 or 316 SS it would be a litte hard to machine becuse of the difference in material but you are not doing that so knock your self out. if you are not that good ant Gmaw which is MIg you could use the SMAW process which is stick and use rod and it would look alot better if you are trying to get that rainbow affect people like. if i was to use stick i would get something from U.T.P made by Boilertheisen a manufacturing company and there rod and wire laydown awsome...JUST MY 2 CENTS... GOOD LUCK
