Default 225/45/16 on 6" wide rim

is this dangerous at all?

not dangerous just not recommended belongs on a 7 to inch wide wheel

if its not dangerous, then why is it recommended on a wider rim? i am asking becuase i want to put these tires on stock 5th gen prelude wheels.

by squeezing the tire to fit on that rim, the sidewall is affected. when the sidewall is affected, handling is affected.

i guess it could also be dangerous as there is a greater chance that the bead would pop out, but i've never seen that happen.

i wouldn't do it, but i have seen it done.

I wouldn't do it. Most 225/45-16 tires are recommended only for mounting on wheels that are 7.0-8.5 inches wide.

Why not buy the stock size tires (205/50-16)? Remember, if you're looking for performance, the big factor is the tire model, not the tire width; if you want better performance, buy better tires, not wider tires.

A lot of excellent tires are available in 205/50-16, including the outstanding Goodyear F1 GS-D3 ($104/tire after rebate) and the "great bang for the buck" Kumho Ecsta SPT ($59/tire after rebate).
