Default Weak 96 Accord EX? HELP!

Sup guys! I currently own a 96 Accord EX Coupe AUTO. I mean it's great and all. But when I compare it to my parent 01 Accord LX Auto, The 96 Accord just doesn't seem to have any power.

For you Accord owners, is it the same for you guys? Accelration is weak, I step on the gas, it won't reach my target speed fast enough. I have to step on it really hard.

MY QUESTION ARE:
Any simple cleaning i can do? Or change some things?
Any simple and cheap things I can do?

I changed already
-Spark plug
-air filter
-Put in those fuel injector cleaners

Or is the Accord like this already?

An apple is not an orange. If you want a ferrari go buy one. If you want an 01 accord go buy one.

well is your parents a V6 like many accords can be ? that might make a big deal. Compare the stock HP for both of them then cry about the variance.. and look for a fix.

Yeah, an old car is going to be way slower than a new car anyway. You can do some simple bolt-ons to restore some hp but I don't think you are gonna smoke their car unless you do something drastic (i.e. turbo).

You don't need to go as far as a turbo. I have a CB7 (manual though) with basic bolt ons and mods, and i've beaten (not exactly smoke) the newer 4cyl and some older V6 ones, especially if they are auto.

I own the same model and year as you (96 Accord EX) and agree with all the experts that it indeed is an old car (10 year and counting) and you can't really keep your hopes up it will beat the new cars out there. I drove many rental cars made in 06 and of course they are far more powerful even if it's a compact. But then again driving my own even if it's old makes me feel like home. Plus I live in the city so I never get to go beyond 60 mph anyway without crashing or getting ticketed.

Thanks to you all guys(EXCEPT HONDADUDE). I guess I might go bolton. Will it help if I rebuild the engine. Put in new gaskets and new things?

lol the o1 accord has I-VTEC and honestly is alot more powerful up top than the 96 accord, the 96 accord has a good 1st gear and a decent 2nd gear but the 3rd gear pull is just LONG and slow makes u want to go to sleep. dont get started on 4th gear lol. but a way to get that thing faster is to deal away with the factory exhaust, let it breath betterl, use SEAFOAM in ur crankcase(where u pour oil), follow the directions and then change the oil. what it will do is clean the internals of your motor without having to rebuild it, makes ur crap smoke for a while but thats how u know its working Replace any misclleanious hoses.

The 5th Gens have alot of power IMHO and aren't that different from the 6th Gens (4 cylinder wise)...try the usual tune-ups and also clean out your EGR Ports if you get a chance...you might see a big difference in performance with that alone

98-02 Accord has VTEC. 03+ has I-VTEC =D When RSX first came out with I-VTEC back in 2002. Anyways.

EGR? How do you clean that

And Seafoam?

I know the differences between the two. Just stating that the differences between the two models you mentioned aren't night and day.

Search for the link on here for cleaning out the EGR ports and valve. There are a few floating around here. The same with Seafoam. I personally have done the EGR clean out and found a great improvement in response and gas mileage

do a compression check and see if you have good compression on all your cylinders.

Try taking the intake off and use some carb cleaner spray to clean the t/b and intake manifold. Spray the throttle first, turn on the motor, then shoot more in a little at a time while cracking the throttle. That can help quite a bit on an older car.

Your 96 shouldn't be *that* much slower. The 5th gens are not exactly fast, but they have pretty good torque, and the car really isn't all that heavy. Compared to a new car anyway (not many cars under 3K lbs anymore...)

That said, I don't know how much the automajik slows the car down. Mine does alright, but it's also a stick and the EX gearbox is at least decent.

To windback44
Where can I buy one of those compression gauge?

Well, i'm going to do some cleaning of the engine. Gonna buy some carb spray. Clean the EGR valve, clean the "t/b" and do a complete wash of the engine.
And I'm also bringing the Accord in for a Emissions warranty extension. I get The distributor cap, spark plug wires, spark plug, oil change and other things. We'll see

I'll follow up

UPDATE!

Well I just got back from the dealer and man what a difference! Car feels like new. It accelerated with confidence. For you Honda/Acura Owners of 95-96, I suggest you do the warranty extension.

Tommorow or next week, I'm going to clean the throttle body. So we'll see. And the EGR vavle.

Go to the dealer, ask them for warranty extension. I forgot what year is avalible to. i know 96 Honda Cars can do it.
Anyways they replaced my wires, spark plug, rotor, distibutor cap, and did a free oil change and filter. And got some recall done too. I saw the incovice. $880 for that recall

LOL pay for a recall? No way. it was free. The honda dealer told us that we need to replace the oil pan gasket, but we said no. It's prob their way of making money themselves.

Yeah it helps a lot, the EGR valves are in a thread somewhere here with pics, I'm planning on doing that sometime shortly. I need to hit up the warranty extension as well I think it ends at 150k for the 94-97 accords and mine just rolled 148k

Will they honor the warranty exension for 5th Gens that are modded? My gf has the basic bolt-ons cept for the header and she has suspension work misc things. I'm afraid of walking into the dealer and getting turned down because of the mods.
