Please keep the posts informative, I don't want clutter, bs, etc. Thanks in advance to those with information I can use..

theorertically it would work. but the key issue is safety. i personally don't know how safe that option is, but someone in the road racing/auto cross forum might know, since they usually have aftermarket racing seats and harnesses and safety to them is just as, if not more, important then being fast.

alot of people keep the stock seatbelts when they switch to racing seats. strapping on a 4/5 point harness 10 times a day isnt exactly convenient.

you need a harness/roll bar to mount a harness, and you do not want to wear a harness everyday in traffic. if you still can't figure out why..sometime about your neck snapping and your rib cage collapseing
(read: search)
it's perfectly fine to use your stock SRS seatbelt with racing seat, just make sure the bracket(please do NOT use oem bracket) is not too low so your face will be in the way of the air bag

In my old Civic I had both a 4 point harness and the OEM belt. Like someone already said, it's not exactly comfortable to drive around in a harness all the time. On my Civic the belts were attatched to the body and the lap belt was snaked through the slots on the seat right under the harness.
Since one of the belts in seat mounted, you should probably keep it that way as opposed to attaching it to the tunnel. Take the old seat belt mounting piece and try and weld it to the seat bracket. Look for the thickest part of the bracket to weld to.

I would HIGHLY recommend disconnecting the airbag if you run a race seat. The seat/bag are designed to work together and chances are very good the new seat position will not be good. Unfortunatly there is no way to know until it's too late.
I don't know about the rib collapsing thing... If everything is set up right, it's all real safety equipment. If it kills you, why is it a mandated change for damn near every class of racing? Do racecar drivers have super-ribs or something?

Ok. I may or may not get seats soon. If I decide NOT to get seats at all, is there a way to add lateral bolster so I don't go swaying when I take turns hard?
That's primarily my concern...I haven't had too much a problem with back support (found my Sparco Speed MORE supportive vs. OEM VW seat)
And to standback...I would have racing harness for canyon runs or spirited driving sessions..NOT for daily use. Seats in question are of the reclinable sort like Sparco Torinos or Corbeaus

no they do not but they do wear hans device, helmet and their cam lock harness is actually mounted on a harness bar or rollcage/loop in a proper angle unlike a streetable car. you could "set it up right" but it will not be very streetable(you might argue but no, a 6 pt rollcage w/ harness and helmet is not imho.
