transmission not wanting to go into 1st or reverse
shift fork? cylinder? synchros? time for a new tranny? I've searched and found some that couldn't go in reverse. But mine is a 1st and reverse, I really have to push it to get it in gear
Two price searches in your area is all you need, a rebuild price and a swap price, go with the cheapest.
It depends on your model. If you have a 3rd generation, go with the brand new one. HOWEVER, think of these possibilities before shelling out the cash:
Check the shifter cable. May be bad in some place.
Reverse is notorious for not going in because it doesn't have any synchronizers. If it doesnt go straight in, try the following:
Shift into either 2nd,3rd,or fourth before shifting in reverse. If that doesnt solve, release clutch and then it'll go in. It'll make a grinding noise, but refer to my statement above concerning the synchronizers.
I have the problem with first some times. It's really finacky. Sometimes it'll go in, others it wont. I just shift from second to first. I asked some questions and it seems that this problem isn't that major... but You cant GET IN to first, so something major might be up. Some options to consider before jumping on the deep end
Edit - Could be your synchronizers, but it sounds if you're completely blocked. Try bleeding the lines from the master cylinder and such. They are the faulty ones when your pedal sustains to any pressure and doesn't return to your original position.
