I store my car all winter and start it probally once every three weeks if its not apart.
I jack it up and put wood blocks under the conrol arms so the suspension is at ride height but the tires are off the ground.
I've heard it is bad for the shock to be at full travel for extended amounts of time.
I keep a trickle charge on the battery to maintaine it cheap $10 walmart charger.

Bumping this up - I have a similiar question.

My car has been sitting for ~2-3 years now. The motor was freshly rebuilt so I dont need to worry about the oil preservation.

However, I have about 3/4 tank of gas. What should I do prior to dropping the motor back in and starting it up?

I have the interior out so if there could be rust, I can check that very easily. I also ran all new lines from the pump forward, so I dont need to worry about those.

Should I drain it? Keep the gas in there to prevent rust? Drain it and put new gas + stabilizer in?

Thanks!

drain the tank and drop it out. if there are no visible rust spots and the tank doesnt feel weak (like it's rusted too badly), pour some BBs in there and shake it around to break all of that **** loose. then you'll have to find something to rinse it with. i'd say rinse it with some 87 octane, but gas is expensive as ****, and the last thing you want is a chunk of rust trying to go through your fuel pump and lines.

if you don't feel like doing all of that to the tank, drain it and fill it back up with fresh gas at the very least. bad gas = no bueno

stored since 9/05 startups once every two weeks also put in 2nd gear and idled for 10 minutes, battery disconnected til next start up, still on 1 tank of gas, both oil's changed prior to storage, suspension off car, a/c turned on during warmup to cycle system through, never a problem with startup yet

or you can put a bottle of fuel stabilizer in there and dont have to worry about that

my cousins si was in storage for 2 years on jackstands when he was in the military overseas, fuel stabilizer, changed oil before we started it, and it started right up</TD></TR></TABLE>

Did he put the stabilizer in before he left? Mine has been sitting there without stabilizer for years

When I looked in there I didnt see any rust. I will snake an inspection mirror from work and peek down in there tomorrow.

The good thing is that this cas has been in the garage for this time, so it hasnt seen any water or harsh environment
